PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) In a state facility this class is accountable for the diagnosis and treatment of individuals needing psychiatric care. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES + Participates in diagnosis, care and treatment of individuals in an assigned service; + Interviews newly admitted individuals to obtain their intellectual and physical history in order to determine appropriate treatment plans; + Conducts intellectual and physical evaluations of individuals; + Makes daily rounds to examine individuals and modify treatment plans; + Conducts individual and group psychotherapy; + Instructs unit and professional staff on individuals and general unit medical management; + Reviews individuals’ records; + Meets with visitors and answers inquiries; + Meets with team to determine individual treatment plans; + Prescribes drugs and/or occupational, physical, psychological or industrial therapy; + Investigates complaints and unusual occurrences and makes reports of findings; + May manage medical and surgical treatments; + May review work of psychiatric residents; + May testify in court to provide evidence of intellectual status of individuals; + May perform physical examinations; + Performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY + Knowledge of + principles and practices of medicine with particular reference to diagnosis and treatment of individuals; + recent developments in field of psychiatric medicine; + Considerable + interpersonal skills; + oral and written communication skills; + Skill in intellectual and physical diagnosis; + Supervisory ability. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE + Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain a license to practice medicine and surgery issued by the Connecticut Department of Public Health in accordance with the applicable Connecticut General Statutes. A temporary license may be granted for a period not to exceed one (1) year. + Incumbents in this class must have completed at least one (1) year of residency program experience in psychiatry approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience: + Experience working with individuals with individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities of all age demographics + Experience using Microsoft Applications; Word, Excel, Teams; Eprescribing; and ordering labs SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).
