Psychometrist Assistant, Neurology - Adult patients, Oakland
**UPMC Department of Neurology is looking for a Psychometrist Assistant. This is a Monday- Friday Daylight position.** **Responsibilities:** + Administer standardized tests of cognition as part of research protocols with neurocognitive outcomes + Score all tests administered, adhering to standardization methods or those provided by the neuropsychologist in a timely fashion + Creating a comfortable environment for children and adolescents in which to complete the testing + The technician will perform all duties under the direct supervision of a licensed neuropsychologist. + Administer and score self-report and interview-based inventories and questionnaires completed by the patient and/or family members + Perform occasional administrative support tasks as are necessary for the day-to-day operation of the Neuropsychology Service + Administer standardized and nonstandardized tests of intelligence and mental abilities in the course of a work-up for children with complex medical conditions including Epilepsy, Brain Tumors, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Spina Bifida, and other medical disorders affecting the neuroaxis. Testing is done in conjunction with the assessment of the child/adolescent by the faculty neuropsychologist who may conduct some of the testing + Complete observations of the patient's behavior and mood during the evaluation and documenting these observations + Maintain testing equipment and recording forms in working condition and good supply. + The technician will perform all duties under the direct supervision of a licensed neuropsychologist. + Develop and enact an appropriate flow of neuropsychological assessments based on direction from the neuropsychologist, patient capabilities, and patient/family behavior. + Administer standardized and nonstandardized tests of cognitive and mental abilities in the course of a work-up for patients with complex medical conditions including Epilepsy, Brain Tumors, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Spina Bifida, and other medical disorders affecting the neuroaxis. Testing is done in conjunction with the assessment of patients by the faculty neuropsychologist who may conduct some of the testing. This includes measures of intelligence, language, visuospatial skills, processing speed, attention, memory, executive functioning, motor functioning, academic functioning, effort, and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. May involve some coverage working with adult patients through our outpatient program at Mercy Hospital. + Technician may administer standardized tests of cognition as part of research protocols with neurocognitive outcomes. + Complete detailed observations of the patient's behavior and mood during the evaluation including expressive and receptive language functioning, response style, attention and focus, hyperactivity, mood, affect, social skills, and any other notable behaviors. Documentation is written up for each patient in a standardized format. + Create a comfortable environment for patients in which to complete the testing via utilization of rapport-building techniques and behavior management. + Administer and score self-report and interview-based inventories and questionnaires completed by the patient and/or family members. Score all tests administered, adhering to standardization methods or those provided by the neuropsychologist in a timely fashion. The technician will develop a nuanced understanding of standardized administration, normative data comparisons, and statistics to complete these tasks correctly. + Actively communicate patients' progress to the attending neuropsychologist to adjust the assessment battery and process and improve outcomes as needed. + Consistently adhere to licensing, accreditation, regulatory, and service expectations per UPMC, the PA DOH, and CHP guidelines and requirements. + Accurately complete all required documentation within assigned timelines, per regulatory and licensing standards, and submit to the attending neuropsychologist. + Maintain testing equipment and recording forms in working condition and good supply. Bachelor's degree in psychology or other Behavioral Science required. Prior neuropsychological testing experience preferred. Prior experience working with children is highly desirable.Must have excellent interpersonal skills including capacity to work with and elicit cooperation from children with significant cognitive, behavioral, and psychiatric problems.
