Description
Atlantic Cape Community College is seeking dedicated educators to teach within our innovative
Clemente Course in the Humanities for Veterans. This non-credit course will offer military
veterans a unique opportunity to explore themes of war and reconciliation through literature,
philosophy, art history, history, and writing. The class will meet March 31-June 19, Mondays and
Thursdays, 5:30-6:45 PM.
Examples of Duties
+ Instruction: Facilitate approximately 6 or 7 of the class meetings for the Clemente Course in the Humanities, focusing on your area of expertise. Manage assessment for your portion of the course and input grades.
+ Orientation: Participate in an orientation meeting to introduce students to the course and your specific module.
+ Lesson Plan Development: Collaborate in the creation and refinement of lesson plans, utilizing sample syllabi and resources.
+ Completion Ceremony: Attend the completion ceremony to celebrate the students' achievements.
+ Class Trips: Optionally attend one or two class trips (dates TBD)
Typical Qualifications
Educational Background:
+ Master's Degree is required
+ Expertise in at least one of the following disciplines: literature/writing, philosophy, history, or art history.
Experience:
+ Previous teaching experience preferred, particularly in remote learning environments. Experience working with veterans or familiarity with trauma-informed teaching techniques is a plus.
Skills:
+ Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
Supplemental Information
Compensation
+ Stipend: Participating faculty will receive a stipend of $1,685 for their contributions to the course.
This position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.
Tuition Waiver - adjuncts may enroll for one credit course, tuition-free, during any semester they are teaching.
Paid sick leave in accordance with the NJ Paid Sick Leave Law
ABP (Alternate Benefit Program (https://www.state.nj.us/treasury/pensions/pension-active-abp.shtml) is a defined contribution retirement program for adjuncts. Adjuncts contribute 5% of base salary and the college contributes 8% of base salary. There are seven State-authorized ABP investment carriers. Life insurance benefits through ABP are payable to the beneficiary at 3.5X the member's salary.
