Diageo Eastern Europe covers Diageo’s beer business across all of Continental Europe as well as spirits businesses across Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The market consists of 43 governments, with employees representing 21 different nationalities.
**ABOUT YOU**
We’re looking for a proactive and driven individual, with a keen interest in policy and Government Affairs, to join our Corporate Relations (CR) team in Eastern Europe. This individual will oversee our Government Affairs and Public Policy agenda for the Eastern Europe business, representing the business in relevant trade associations and amongst political partners across the region to promote Diageo’s reputation and protect our license to operate. You’ll work closely with the wider EE, Diageo Budapest and global Corporate Relations teams, to deliver an ambitious corporate relations agenda. This includes launching our tax discrimination campaigns, amplify our Spirit of Progress initiatives in the market, building relationships and advocates amongst political partners, and managing a number of public policy issues in key countries.
**Function**
Our Corporate Relations team purpose is to protect and promote Diageo’s reputation and licence to operate, to support our ambition to become the most trusted and respected consumer goods company. The Corporate Relations team in Eastern Europe oversees our Spirit of Progress agenda, our external and internal communications as well as our Government Affairs outreach.
**ABOUT THE ROLE**
+ The Public Affairs Manager is responsible for building and managing our relationships with key trade associations, partners and public policy stakeholders across the region. This entails representing Diageo through a number of platforms and channels, from one-to-one meetings and industry roundtables to external events.
+ You will be responsible for overseeing and driving our campaign work in Eastern Europe to tackle spirits discrimination from an excise tax point of view. You will work hand in hand with our trade associations in the region, as well as campaign alliances to tell a positive story about the spirits category and ensure a stable and fair excise duty environment in Eastern Europe.
+ As Public Affairs Manager you will oversee a number of policy areas relevant to the Eastern Europe business, with a particular focus on health and alcohol policy, working alongside our relevant trade bodies to track the opportunities and risks of the business and engage where relevant and necessary.
+ You will work hand in hand with the wider CR team to deliver our ambitious CR agenda in Eastern Europe, such as amplification of our Spirit of Progress programmes and initiatives and relevant corporate projects.
+ You will work closely with the Corporate Relations Director to set the strategic direction for our public policy agenda and horizon scan for any potential opportunity or risks coming down the line to ensure the business is fully prepared.
+ In this role you will manage our retained Public Affairs agency in Eastern Europe, as well as working closely with other relevant agencies used by global CR teams, to enable the delivery of our agenda.
+ You will be required to oversee our relationship with key trade bodies, helping to shape and drive activity via relevant working groups and forums, and supporting senior internal partners with their involvement in these organisations where relevant.
**Experience required/Skills/Capabilities/Languages**
+ We’d love to work with someone who has a keen interest and knowledge of political and current affairs, in addition to a strong external and reputational radar. As a minimum however we require someone to have a broad understand of the Eastern European political systems and willingness to engage with a range of various external partners.
+ 5 years of experience Public or Government Affairs, either directly, within an agency setting or in an in-house role.
+ Prior experience managing or organising advocacy campaigns.
+ Strong leadership skills, to support collaborative working with senior leaders and external partners with the capability and confidence to provide direction, coaching and support.
+ Strong relationship building and alignment skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross functional teams across our organisation. Able to build strong relationships with broad spectrum of people.
+ Managing complexity and ambiguity. Managing an agenda of multiple priorities, multiple partners and juggling multiple projects in a fluid environment.
+ Excellent written and general communication skills (English and preferably one Eastern European language), as well as attention to detail are essential for this role.
