The Role:

Blackstone is seeking an experienced corporate communications professional to help manage media relations/communications for Blackstone’s Private Equity platform (over $350 billion in AUM and more than 100 portfolio companies).

The role will report to a Senior Managing Director (SMD) in the Public Affairs group who oversees communications/media relations for Blackstone’s private equity platform. The VP will work closely with the SMD to help manage a team of Public Affairs associates/analysts focused on Private Equity. 

The person will join the firm’s New York-based Public Affairs group. The team is responsible for the firm’s public relations, external messaging and reputation, social media presence, communications to and amongst our employees, and managing all aspects of the firm’s brand.

This person will help manage communications around private equity transactions/fundraising, proactive and reactive media relations, portfolio company issues, and related matters. This person will work closely with stakeholders across the firm – senior leadership, business professionals, cross-business corporate functions, and marketing, among others.

Key responsibilities include:

Working closely with the firm’s Private Equity business units on media strategy and specific transaction communications

Multi-faceted project management with a lean team

Acting as firm spokesperson with the press, including proactive media outreach and reactive story management

Managing press events, including interviews

Drafting and coordinating press releases, media campaigns, talking points, thought leadership initiatives, and internal communications

Helping manage communications relationships with portfolio companies

Qualifications:

This person should have strong news judgement, storytelling and messaging skills and be confident working independently and collaboratively:

7+ years of relevant experience, some in the financial industry preferred; private equity and/or deal experience a plus

A track record at developing and managing media relations either from PR agency, corporate or government roles

Strong oral and written communications skills

Highly organized self-starter with the ability to work independently

Strong organizational and time-management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to efficiently work within tight deadlines

Proactive and hands-on; thrives in a dynamic environment

Experience managing reputational risk and advising on strategy

Must possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact effectively with other senior level employees and outside contacts

Expected annual base salary range:

$150,000 - $225,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.

Additional compensation: Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with the advertised role.
