The Leidos Performance and Readiness Division is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist who will provide communications and outreach support to the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) in Frederick, Maryland.  This position currently requires 3 days in the office with 2 days telework.

The CDMRP is a leading funder of research projects across a broad range of medical fields and military health.  The Leidos Public Affairs Specialist will work across a diverse portfolio of neurological, neurobehavioral, and autoimmune disease-related research programs to provide communications and outreach support to promote CDMRP’s goal to transform healthcare through innovative and impactful research.

What you will do:

Provide public affairs and strategic communications support to the CDMRP.

Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to communicate information to individuals or groups with varying levels of familiarity of CDMRP, including researchers, health professionals, consumer advocates and the general public.

Work collaboratively with the Government Public Affairs Specialist and other program personnel to facilitate the logistics and publication of various communications materials.

Ensure implementation of DoD policy and procedures governing public affairs activities.

Manage communications, outreach, publications, and external engagement activities.

Initiate, plan, execute, and report on tasks independently, as identified.

Conduct meetings to obtain customer input on program issues and developing solutions.

Identify best practices and methodologies to improve effectiveness of communications, outreach, branding, and external engagement activities.

Establish and maintain successful relationships with government officials, consumer advocacy organizations, and other key stakeholders to enhance CDMRP outreach.

Develop content for social media, public announcements, fact sheets, presentations, video scripts, and other associated media and materials.

Develop concise and compelling summaries and briefings of technical and/or research reports for lay audiences.

Apply data-driven marketing best practices using data analysis and business analytics expertise to make recommendations for strategy and implementation.

Translate complex scientific information into lay-friendly language.

Tailor and promote information for a variety of audiences.

Successful candidates will possess:

Thorough knowledge of and application of a wide range of oral, written, social, visual communications concepts, principles, policies, practices, methods, applications, techniques, standards, and trends.

Experience developing SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound) communication objectives aligned with the customer’s communication strategy and goals.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Proven background creating compelling marketing content.

Ability to transform complex biomedical/health sciences subject matter and diverse source material into accurate and engaging content for a variety of audiences.

Experience working with government clients and military commands.

Familiarity with social media marketing campaigns.

Experience analyzing marketing and social media metrics.

Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.

Ability to thrive in a highly flexible work environment.

Familiar with following different communications style guides.

Editorial experience reviewing products for grammar and punctuation.

Background in development and implementation of communications strategies and outreach plans.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat preferred.

Eligibility Requirements:

A Master’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related discipline and 1+ year of relevant experience.

U.S. citizenship is required per Contract to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense Public Trust security clearance.

Pay Range:Pay Range $55,250.00 - $99,875.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
