Summary This position is part of the Defense Human Resources Activity. The incumbent will be responsible for web content/social media for DEOMI. Establishes and maintains working relationships with the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Public Affairs, the DHRA Public Affairs, and the 45th Space Wing Public Affairs Offices concerning all issues related to DEOMI. Responsibilities As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST (SOCIAL MEDIA) at the GS-1035-12 some of your typical work assignments may include: Advises and assists the Commandant and Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) Directors, faculty, and staff on all public affairs matters. Serves as a web content/social media manager for DEOMI. Establishes and maintains working relationships with the the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Public Affairs, the Defense Human Resources Activity (DHRA) Public Affairs, and the 45th Space Wing (45 SW) Public Affairs Offices concerning all issues related to DEOMI. Increases public awareness of DEOMI's programs and benefits to the public. Uses critical thinking, communication concepts and strategies, risk analysis, and audience segmentation skills to recommend the best approach to each communication plan and published item. Briefs executive-level DoD, other governmental, international, national, and local officials concerning DEOMI's mission, programs, activities, and their impact. Manages and coordinates media coverage of DEOMI events. Maintains and manages the social media accounts for DEOMI, including content development, timely sharing, and meaningful engagement. Consistently monitors social media accounts and prepared to answer public inquiries and comments on social media. Serves as the social media manager/public affairs officer. Maintains and manages the DEOMI social media accounts and ensures content, posts, articles, and other published materials aligns with DEOMI's mission, priorities, policies, procedures, and other guidance as required. Designs communication products. Identifies, coordinates, and supervises the design, development, and production of print and multimedia products tailored to the specific needs of targeted audiences. Develops, produces, and markets informational products, including print, and products such as articles, brochures, booklets, pamphlets; web-based products over the internet; and multimedia products such as national observances which require Under Secretary of Defense Personnel & Readiness-level coordination and approval. Researches, writes, coordinates, and implements comprehensive communications plans in support of DEOMI's mission, priorities, policies, programs, initiatives, and communication plan that are complex and critical to mission accomplishment. Serves as DEOMI's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) monitor. Coordinates response with respective Institute departments and ensures timely answers to FOIA requests in accordance with established DoD and DHRA guidelines. Works closely with the Enterprise FOIA representative. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service: Maintain and manage social media accounts for an organization including content development, timely sharing, and meaningful engagement. Manages and coordinates media coverage of an organizations events. Prepares and disseminates press releases, feature articles, and other audiovisual and web-based media to the international, national, and local media as required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
