Position Description
The Public Art Manager is a full time Civil Service position in Metro Arts and leads the development, strategic planning and oversight of all programs, partnerships and financial investments for public art and creative placemaking which includes administration of both capital (One Percent for Art) and operating budgets. This position directly oversees the permanent Percent for Art program collection, THRIVE microfund, temporary artwork installations and other artist residencies, special projects, and commissions. This position also manages a wide array of public partnerships with Metro Departments and in the private sector including: Americans for the Arts (AFTA), Public Art Network, Urban Land Institute (ULI), American Institute of Architects (AIA), Nashville Civic Design Center (NCDC) and others.

Typical Duties
+ Designs and implements improvements to the public art investment framework.
+ Leads implementation of Public Art Community Investment Plan.
+ Determines how the impact of public art funding serves all communities to engage in the arts with specific attention to previously underserved communities in Nashville.
+ Designs and guides project schedule and the tracking system for public arts projects.
+ Leads development of critical high impact public art projects including planning, procurement, budget tracking and artist management and installation.
+ Manages the Public Art Committee of the Board of Commissioners.
+ Facilitates artist training and programs that support public art ecosystem.
+ Manages contracts, financial tracking and compliance for all projects.
+ Creates evaluation and public communication tools that show the value of public investment in public art.
+ Responsible for continuous process improvements for the entire agency, through facilitating clear and open feedback, employee evaluations and documentation of work performance.
+ Supports the Metro Arts Commissioners’ vision, Metro Nashville Diversity Officer’s guidelines, and the agency's work in developing and sustaining equitable practices across programs and policies, furthering the team commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree plus five (5) years of professional experience in an administrative, public arts management and/or program design, planning or architecture or related field.
*Substitution for education and/or experience (1:1 ratio) may be considered.*

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

+ Project management skills, including the ability to produce, track and manage multiple deliverables with overlapping deadlines
+ Experience building collaborative and productive relationships with community members, institutions, and organizations, particularly with communities of color, immigrant and refugee communities and other historically marginalized communities
+ Experience managing subcontractors and with contracting and procurement procedures
+ Demonstrates experience creating and maintaining reliable digital records, strong computer skills, including proficiency in spreadsheet and collection management database program
