This vacancy is being announced as a Classified position and will be filled as a Probationary appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with experience in one of the following will be highly considered: SQL database operations, R Studio, Python, SAS, or Tableau. Prior to an interview, candidates will be asked to submit examples of proficiency with at least one statistical software.
Primary locations for this position are Baton Rouge and New Orleans; however, this position may be located in offices statewide. Qualified applicants statewide are encouraged to apply. Please note that this is classified as a hybrid position with three days in-office and two days at home. Full-time telework can be requested but not guaranteed.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, nursing, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences plus one year of experience in epidemiology; OR
A doctorate degree in epidemiology.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from a Public Health Epidemiologist Technician 2 by independently conducting epidemiological activities and independence in using technical tools of epidemiology, such as; study design and statistics.
Differs from a Public Health Epidemiologist Supervisor by the absence of the following: responsibility for direct supervision of epidemiology staff, prioritizing appropriate public health intervention programs and handling policy development issues.
Examples of Work
The OPH Bureau of Health Informatics (BHI) is the primary health statistics, health systems analytic, and policy research resource for the department and the state. Responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, and reporting epidemiological surveillance data related to health outcomes in Louisiana.
Duties include:
+ Responding to requests for birth and death data; creating and aggregating datasets as necessary;
+ Providing custom dataset and completing data linkage projects for other agencies;
+ Assisting with the implementation of tracking and surveillance systems;
+ Applying principles of public health, epidemiology, and biostatistics accurately and thoroughly to study, analyze and disseminate data from various data sources;
+ Assisting with data collection activities, which include methodologies and analysis;
+ Assisting with the writing of progress and annual reports;
+ Preparing reports and data visualizations on available epidemiological data and findings for service providers, advocacy groups, advisory councils, elected officials, and other groups that request information;
+ Collaborating with other LDH agencies and non-LDH agencies to define additional data sources to enhance vital records data reporting;
+ Using project management platform to track timely delivery of project requirements and adherence to timelines.
