Come join the best communications team in New York State government.The Director of Public Information supervises our media relations, social media, video, graphics, and writing teams and is responsible for the following: • Ensuring timely and appropriate responses to media inquiries with an emphasis on transparency.• Identifying opportunities to showcase the work of the Department to broad public audiences.• Working with team managers to meet critical internal and external deadlines.• Approving and copy editing all messaging.• Performing data analysis on social media metrics and advising on strategies to increase reach.• Monitoring all content creation for brand and messaging consistency.• Working in coordination with marketing staff on various projects to amplify initiatives within the agency.• Coaching staff on performance improvement. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Ten years of experience in public relations, social media, marketing or digital communications, two years of which must have included program management or supervision of professional staff. *Substitution: Associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, Journalism or a similar degree substitutes for two, four, or five years, respectively. Preferred Qualifications: • Two or more years at the managerial level• Demonstrated success in building and maintaining coalitions and relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.• Effective written and oral communication and high degree of responsiveness.• Ability to make strategic decisions pertaining to staff and procedures and commit to a course of action.• Experience working with an active principal relaying agency messaging to a variety of stakeholders including the media and members of government.
