Summary This is a public notice for FAA authorized Technical Publications (1083) positions open to U.S. Citizens. Positions may be announced for FV-F through J in support the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act 2021. Positions to only be filled within the Assistant Administrator for Communications (AOC). Responsibilities This series includes positions that involve writing or editing technical materials, such as reports of research findings; scientific or technical articles, news releases, and periodicals; regulations in technical areas; technical manuals, specifications, brochures, and pamphlets; or speeches or scripts on scientific or technical subjects. Technical writers and technical editors draw on a substantial knowledge of a particular subject-matter area, such as the natural or social sciences, engineering, law, or other fields. The work involves the development of information and analysis to select and present information on the specialized subject in a form and at a level suitable for the intended audience. You must demonstrate in your application three years of general work experience of which at least one year was equivalent to the FG/GS-4 level experience that provided an understanding of the basic principles, practices, operations, and specialized vocabulary of technical publication writing. The applicant must have acquired the ability to describe information in simple, clear language. Or Successful completion of 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, gained from an accredited college or university. Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR Combination of education and experience may be qualifying for this position. FV-G. Possession of at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-F, FG/GS-5 thru 9 level. Examples may include: Experience writing or editing technical publications in the aviation field; experience acquiring and presenting technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject-matter specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. Or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Education must be directly related to the position. OR Combination of education and experience may be qualifying for this position. FV-H. Possession of at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, (FG/GS-10/11) level. Examples may include: experience writing and editing complex technical material drafted by others using established practices, standards, and guidance including application of technical communications concepts (e.g. writing/editing software and information design). FV-I. Possession of at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS 12 level. Examples may include: Experience in developing written communication products to address a variety of highly complex, technical matters; and experience conducting independent research to identify and provide needed context for document preparation. FV-J. Possession of at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS 13 level. Examples may include: Experience in developing written communication products to address a variety of highly complex, technical matters; experience conducting independent research to identify and provide needed context for document preparation; and experience leading programs and/or projects.
