MAIN FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, performs duties to ensure the safety and security of Arnot Health patients, visitors, students and employees; applies crime risk and safety hazard prevention techniques, methods, practices, enforces applicable laws and Arnot Health policies; exercises the power of arrest in accordance with NYS CPL Section 140 as a Public Safety Department employee.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
** 1. Conducts regular and thorough patrols, throughout the interior and exterior of Arnot Health locations, noting all present or potential safety, fire, or security hazards/ conditions, and taking such appropriate actions to correct same.
** 2. Collects and compiles all information necessary to complete a variety of reports in a timely, accurate and detailed manner. Conducts follow-up investigation on same as required.
** 3. Maintains accurate digital logbook entries.
** 4. Maintains a thorough working knowledge of all Public Safety departmental equipment and uses all such equipment in a responsible manner. Any problem with equipment is reported promptly.
** 5. Maintains a thorough working knowledge of department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Policy Manual, Arnot Health Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and Fire Manual.
** 6. Responds to ALL calls for assistance. Including, but not limited to, Assistant Needed STAT, Fire Alert, Code Teams, Rapid Response.
** 7. Responds to and supervises all helicopter arrival/departures.
** 8. Conducts monthly fire extinguisher inspections and completes Fire Drills as assigned.
** 9. Conducts FIRE WATCH and Interim Life Safety Measure (ILSM) Rounds as appropriate.
** 10. Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Public Safety and communicates all pertinent information in a timely and efficient manner.
** 11. Acts as a visible representative of Arnot Health, assists all patients, visitors and employees in a prompt, courteous and professional manner. Officer will display a neat, well-groomed appearance and wear proper uniform at all times.
** 12. Directs unauthorized persons away from premises.
** 13. Provides security and escort services when requested. Including but not limited to safety escorts, “direct observations”, and Mental Health and Hygiene or Alcohol and Substance abuse patient escorts to court proceedings.
** 14. Enforces parking policy.
** 15. Completes at least one (1) safety round per shift, inclusive of the main hospital and grounds, and all other on-campus buildings
** 16. Performs scheduled locks/unlocks, as well as locks/unlocks upon request.
** 17. Is it the responsibility of the officer to maintain a current NYS Security Guard License, including attending an 8 Hr. Annual In-service course each year and any applicable renewal fees and paperwork.
** 18. Successfully completes the following training programs and maintain current certification as necessary:
FEMA Independent Study Courses: IS 100, IS 200, IS 907, IS 914International Association of Healthcare Safety & Security (IAHSS-Basic)American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR & AED)Crisis Intervention (PMCS or other as prescribed by organization)Practical and Tactical Handcuffing (PATH)Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training (OCAT)OSHA Hazmat for the First Receiver
** 19. Upon successful completion of training as outlined above, Public Safety Officers are provided, and carry while on duty, the following standard issue equipment: Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol – GEL and Handcuffs.
** 20. Attends additional in-service classes as assigned.
** 21. Is willing and able to work any location, day or shift as required.
** 22. Abides by all Arnot Health and departmental policies, rules and regulations.

Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer’s needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with Arnot Health.
** 24. It is understood that this lists typical duties for the classification and is not to be considered inclusive of all duties which may be assigned.
EDUCATION:
High school graduate or equivalent. Eligible to be licensed as a Security Guard in NYS required, current valid NYS Security Guard License preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Six months to one year desired, preferably in a healthcare setting.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
Provider CPR required within 90 days of hire date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/OTHER:
Must be in good physical condition, able to stand or walk a major portion of their tour in a variety of weather conditions. Able to climb steps and ladders. Ability to lift heavy objects (required minimum of 40 lbs.). Mature personality with some decision-making ability, able to effectively maintain order if a disturbance occurs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Clean and valid Driver’s License required.
EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category II. Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue but employment may require performing unplanned Category I task.
