Responsibilities + The Publications Specialist will provide direct support to DSCU. + Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to, a thorough understanding of 508 compliance, teamwork, and time management skills. + The person shall have a workspace and a government computer for management purposes. + Must obtain a CAC and maintain eligibility for a government computer account on the JSP network. + What You'll Do: + Provide publication support to all of DSCU. + Key Responsibilities: + Format and edit electronic or hard copy articles, reports, textbooks, course materials, scripts, and other information in preparation for printing or posting online. + Coordinate final products with relevant faculty and academic leadership and submit for posting online or printing as appropriate. + Closely proofread text material for clarity, comprehension, accuracy, spelling, grammar, and format, ensuring that products adhere to plain language requirements, the DOD Writing Style Guide, and other applicable DOD and DSCU style requirements, including the use of Chicago Manual of Style shortened notes and bibliographic citations. + When editing documents or course materials, ensure all links remain functional before and after publication. Correct and report broken links. + Proofread course voice-over transcripts for spoken word comprehensibility. + Prepare a draft of acronyms for each edited document or course to ensure acronyms are used consistently and accurately and that acronyms are not overused. + Possess knowledge of various style manuals, desk/library references, etc., to verify information and locate source documents concerning submitted manuscripts. + Coordinate jointly developed writing projects with other organizations. + Provide proofing, copyediting, and administrative support for the DSCU Press, which includes the development of a press-specific style guide. + Providing day-to-day publication support to DSCU. + Working closely with staff. + Customer service and communication skills are important. Qualifications + Education: + A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours appropriate to the work.
