Pulp, Power, and Recovery Technical Assistant

The Opportunity:

You will be responsible for tracking and increasing the productivity of the department, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment, assisting the Engineering Department in the design , installation, and the startup of new equipment, covering weekend call for the Pulp, Power and Recovery areas, training as a relief shift foreman and filling that role as needed, collecting and analyzing daily operational Key Performance Indicators, and supporting operational and production activities in the Pulp, Power, and Recovery areas.  You will report to the Pulp, Power, and Recovery Manager.

How you will impact WestRock:

Minimize the unsafe conditions in the workplace.  Implement proper safety controls, procedures, and barriers.Improve environmental equipment performance and reliability.Troubleshooting equipment and processes.  Understand the equipment operation to aid in the identification of problems, repair, and optimization of the system.Assist in the preparation of work scopes for contractors.  Prepare bid packages, review the bids, select contractors, monitor their performance, and direct their work.Train as a shift foreman.  Understand the contract, be able to lead a crew, be responsible for the crew’s performance, and fill the shift foreman’s position as needed.Investigate alternative equipment and process design.  Seek alternatives to improve the safety, environmental performance, reliability, production, and improve productivity of the processes.  Provide assistance in developing capital and expense budgets for the department.   Track, analyze, optimize, and report on Key Performance Indicators in the Pulp Power and Recovery department.  You will do this on an hourly, daily, and monthly basis.Be able to create PI reports, and process pages.  Will be proficient in Excel, Gannt charting, Power Point, and Word.Support the Pulp, Power, and Recovery programs and processes associated with Safety, Environmental, Process Safety Management, ISO, and Management of Change.

What you need to succeed:

Technical college degree with minimum of 5 years’ experience (i.e., Engineering degree, Pulp & Paper Science degree or similar science degree)Fundamental understanding of mill processes affecting Paper Mill operations. Good oral and written communications skills, highly skilled in group communication as well as one to one communication.  Ability to determine effective and appropriate means of communication.
