Purchasing Assistant
Our client is seeking a Purchasing Assistant for a location in Chesapeake, VA. This role is fully onsite Monday – Friday ; 8:00am – 4:30pm. Responsibilities: + Purchases materials or other goods and/or coordinates activities involved with procuring products and services. + Verifies purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to master list; clarifying unclear items; recommending alternatives. + Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items; obtaining approval for substituted items. + Obtains purchased items by forwarding orders to suppliers, monitoring dates and expediting orders. + Verifies receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves shipment errors with suppliers. + Keeps information accessible by sorting and filing documents. + Obtains required parts, equipment and materials, verifies receipt of items, authorizing payment, and manages and controls inventor. + Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities. + Develop and coordinate new policies and procedures regarding procurement processes. + Processes account applications and maintenance actions and maintain accounts database. + Monitors approval of accounts to maintain an appropriate degree of control over vendor relationships. Qualifications: + 2 + years purchasing experience preferred, 2+ year office experience required. + Business Degrees can be substituted for experience. + Excellent computer skills, including Excel, Word, and Outlook software. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment. + Handles correspondence concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quantity, delivery dates, and prices and report such changes to the interested parties in a timely manner as required. + Monitor supplier performance by ensuring that product is delivered as scheduled and meets specifications; maintaining appropriate files and records of meetings with suppliers to ensure company requirements are met and that supplier is aware of their performance. + Strong negotiation skills. + Ability to work well under pressure. + Intermediate to advanced computer skills. Proficient with MS Office suite and other work-related software. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
