About this role

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing ESG Manager. The position can be located in Midland (MI, USA) or Houston (TX), USA.

Developing and implementing innovative and progressive environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) strategies is key to Dow’s sustainability initiatives. Dow’s Global Purchasing ESG program strives to implement, track, and report ESG improvements in Dow’s supply chain for all sourcing categories.

Reporting to the Global Purchasing Strategic Planning and Governance Director (SP&G), the Purchasing ESG Manager will be responsible for integrating sustainability into sourcing and supplier selection processes for Indirect Procurement. You will track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sustainability and develop language for requests for information (RFI), tenders, and contracts that emphasize sustainability. You will also identify areas where there can be an impact or improvement in supplier environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. You will work closely with sourcing, regional, business, and functional stakeholders, including leaders from SP&G, Supplier Diversity and Category Management, to implement ESG strategies.

Additionally, the role involves managing external relationships and communication related to these responsibilities, as well as overseeing change management processes within the scope of ESG initiatives.

Responsibilities

Enabling Dow’s transition to more sustainable services by collaborating with Purchasing staff to develop and implement processes for supplier identification, vetting, business prequalification, contracting, regulatory compliance and supplier relationship management. Define KPIs and ESG-related terms for the Commercial Area supplier agreements.Developing relationships with key suppliers, including participating in supplier relationship management meetings, assisting with ESG data collection, developing educational and inspiration outreach and trainings, and crafting corrective action plans where needed via Dow’s Supplier ESG Program.Creating strong partnerships within Procurement, as well as with businesses and functions, to ensure effective communication and change management as well as that Dow is on track to meet its ESG goals.Responsible for managing supplier diversity strategy execution within the NA region and aligned commercial area(s) to meet global target.Drive the supplier diversity program within the Commercial Area(s) and across business, functional and regional teams, including developing material, communication & education plans.    Partnering with and maintaining relationships external ESG and Supplier Diversity industry and advocacy groups and Supplier Diversity certifying bodies where it relates to the respective Commercial Area(s) of responsibility.Ensuring Dow remains compliant with regulatory issues related to respective Commercial Area(s) of responsibility by tracking existing and emerging policies and identifying services and suppliers of potential ESG risk in Dow’s supply chain.

Qualifications

A minimum of a bachelor's degree or at least 10 years of relevant working experience or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.A minimum 5 years of relevant working experience.Fluent spoken and written English is required, any other language is a plus.A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Your Skills

A degree discipline in Engineering, Material Science, Business or related Science is preferred.Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG): Experience in sourcing, supply chain, manufacturing, marketing, or sustainability (environmental, social, and/or governance) with concrete achievements in sustainability, climate transition or supplier diversity, data management.Interpersonal Effectiveness: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain strong long-term relationships with suppliers and internal partners.Innovative Thinking: Ability to work independently and be strategic in thinking in ambiguous situations. Sense of ownership, entrepreneurial mindsetInfluential Skills: Ability to communicate your ideas and desires with confidence and respect.Critical thinking skills and comprehension of ESG principles needed to achieve our goalsPrioritization: Experience to work in a dynamic environment with ability to prioritize and focusProject Management: Strong project management skills in cross-functional team
