Purchasing Manager

Johnson Service Group is looking for a Purchasing Manager for one of our clients in San Jose. The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement of raw materials, components, and services needed for the production of electronic assemblies. This role focuses on strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, and ensuring that procurement activities align with production schedules and cost objectives. The Purchasing Manager will lead a team of buyers and collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality departments to ensure smooth operations in a fast-paced EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead and prioritize tasks within the purchasing team to ensure efficient procurement operations. Set performance targets and KPIs for the team, tracking metrics to reduce costs and enhance effectiveness. Mentor and develop the procurement staff, promoting continuous improvement in skills and performance. Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking to support strategic decision-making. Assess, manage, and mitigate procurement risks. Monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with delivery, quality, and pricing commitments. Develop and execute procurement strategies to optimize cost, quality, and delivery timelines. Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors for electronic components, PCBs, and other materials. Ensure that materials are procured in alignment with production schedules while avoiding overstock and bottlenecks. Implement efficient inventory management systems to balance lead times and minimize excess inventory. Conduct regular stock level reviews and manage reorder points based on forecasted demand. Analyze market trends and supplier pricing to inform procurement strategies. Lead cost-reduction initiatives such as value engineering and alternative sourcing. Report on procurement performance, cost savings, and budget variances to senior management. Ensure all purchased materials comply with industry regulations, company quality standards, and customer specifications. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks through alternative sourcing and long-term agreements. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including sourcing RoHS and REACH-compliant components. Conduct supplier audits and performance evaluations to foster continuous improvement and alignment with company goals. Resolve supplier-related issues, such as quality or delivery problems, in a timely manner. Perform other related tasks as assigned, following company procedures and customer requirements.
Qualifications and Job Specifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and customer service skills. Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail abilities. Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to train and mentor team members. Analytical problem-solving skills and strong decision-making abilities. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Senior Buyer or Purchasing Manager in an NPI (New Product Introduction) contract manufacturing environment, including PCBA and mechanical assemblies. At least 5 years of experience in purchasing, warehousing, and logistics within an EMS environment. Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent experience. Proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced skills in Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel. Ability to multitask, manage conflicting priorities, and partner effectively with business and operations leaders. Self-directed, dependable, and highly motivated, with excellent relationship-building and time management skills.
Availability Requirements:
Must be available during standard business hours and flexible to work additional hours when necessary. Occasional odd-hour teleconferences with global facilities may be required to meet business needs. Salary starting at $125k DOE
