We are currently hiring a Purchasing Supervisor to join the team at our mechanical evaporation facility in Unity, Saskatchewan.
Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals’ Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company’s four mechanical evaporation plants. The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture. The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2-hour drive from Saskatoon. Overview: Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is primarily responsible for day-to-day support of operations, in Unity Wynyard Saskatchewan, by effectively sourcing a supply of needed plant equipment and supplies by supervising the stores department and inventory. This includes monitoring of performance, continuous cost improvement, process improvement, safety, training, and work activities related to the operation with an emphasis on controlling costs, total cost of ownership and inventory systems proficiency.
How will you contribute to the team?
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Collaborate with internal and external customers to guarantee timely and cost-effective delivery of materials, ensuring seamless operations. Oversee daily stores functions, including staffing, inventory management, and procurement of both stock and non-stock items.Partner with maintenance planners and operations teams to obtain quotes, source non-stock materials, and optimize procurement processes.Execute effective procurement strategies for stock, non-stock, and project materials, ensuring optimal sourcing, negotiation, and documentation.Uphold company policies and corporate supply contracts, maintaining meticulous inventory accuracy and conducting timely cycle counts.Collaborate with accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies and maintain accurate cost records within the system.Analyze inventory levels, anticipate needs, and proactively purchase replacement items while adhering to best practices and minimizing costs.Initiate, track, and expedite purchase orders, actively seeking and reporting cost-saving opportunities.Build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, ensuring efficient order fulfillment and issue resolution.Ensure the proper and authorized flow of chemicals and materials into the plant, prioritizing safety, and regulatory compliance.Develop, maintain, and communicate key stores metrics to site management, enabling data-driven decision-making.Perform other duties as assigned.Explore the potential of being part of something Clearly Essential

Certified Professional Supply Management is considered an asset CPSM.Minimum of five (5) years of purchasing experience including sourcing and negotiations; experience in the procurement of maintenance materials also preferred.Experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing environment would be as asset.Previous experience with EnterpriseOne or experience with a similar ERP system; training will be provided.Excellent English communication skills (both written and verbal)Excellent organizational and time management skillsMust demonstrate initiative and be detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.Must possess a valid driver’s license.What will you like about us?
