The Pyrotechnics Engineer will\:
Apply extensive job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts. Support requirements development, design reviews, test and verification plans and other technical reviews of NASA pyrotechnic systems. Perform oversight function and advise NASA employees and contractors responsible for development of pyro systems designs for NASA. Perform root cause analysis. Support problem resolution and provide recommendations for resolving technical issues. Provide insight and advice on design efficiency. Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors. Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering with experience in the field or in a related area. Knowledge of pyro systems including the use of propellants, actuators, and their applications. Knowledge of pyro systems including the use of explosives, frangible nuts and bolts, and their applications. Knowledge of reefing line cutters, initiators, and detonators (including challenges of each). Knowledge of explosives energy transfer. Understanding of the tradeoffs of energy release. Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of aerospace hardware. Ability to perform tasks within a team environment. Able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.Requisition Preferences\:
BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school. BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques.
