About the Opportunity 

Amentum are recruiting for a QA/QC Engineer to join our Engineering Development team (ED).  Our ED business delivers client-focused technological solutions to the most complex engineering challenges. Our breadth of capability, coupled with our facilities, enables us to bring the latest thinking and technology to market. We act as the integrator for these technologies; optimising solutions and ensuring that they can be deployed in challenging environments, while our core capabilities focus on experimental rig design and build, testing, robotics and remote operations.

ED sits within the Technology, Consulting, and Innovation (TC&I) part of the business, which is responsible for the largest independent nuclear laboratories in the UK, delivering projects from consultancy, assurance and regulation, through to test rigs and prototypes.

Reporting to the ED performance unit Quality Manager, as a QA/QC Engineer, you will ensure that all products and processes meet the highest quality standards. This role is crucial for maintaining compliance, improving quality, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the organisation.

You will validate and verify all workshop quality assurance and control activities, including welding inspections, material control, and project documentation for production throughout the facility. Your role will involve close collaboration with production and workshop teams to ensure that all quality requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.

This role offers a pathway to senior QA/QC positions, focusing on strategic quality management and leadership within complex engineering projects.

You will be responsible for\:

Quality Planning & Assurance

Develop and implement QA and QC plans for projects, including Manufacturing Quality Plans (MQPs) and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs). Conduct risk assessments and ensure mitigation strategies are embedded in project QA/QC activities. Review and approve project / Lifetime Record (LTR) documentation, ensuring compliance with client and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, including Lifetime Quality Records (LTRs) and material certifications. Oversee project closure activities, ensuring documentation and final QA approvals are complete. Inspection and Audit Perform & witness dimensional, build, welding & assembly inspections and ensure compliance with applicable standards. Conduct internal and external audits of processes and vendors to maintain ISO 9001\:2015 compliance. Manage and track non-conformance reports (NCRs), ensuring timely resolution and prevention of recurrence.

Vendor and Supply Chain Management

Assess, monitor, and audit vendors to ensure goods and services meet specified requirements. Collaborate with purchasing staff to evaluate vendor capabilities, considering QA requirements during procurement.

Continuous Improvement

Implement and promote the use of continuous improvement tools and methodologies. Facilitate lessons-learned sessions and incorporate findings into QA processes. *

Essential\:

Experience in manufacturing quality assurance, with a focus on welding inspection and materials control. Strong knowledge of ISO 9001\:2015 standards and application. Experience with continuous improvement tools and techniques (e.g., root cause analysis, Six Sigma). Exceptional organisational and project management skills. Ability to influence and interact effectively at all levels, including clients, vendors, and internal teams. Leadership development programmes. Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent. HNC (Level 4) qualification in an engineering or relevant technical discipline. Certified CSWIP Welding Inspector. NDE Training / Technician experience

Desirable 

Experience with QA/QC in the nuclear, construction, or related engineering industries. Familiarity with Design Verification and Validation processes.  Knowledge of additional management systems standards (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).  Membership of a professional institute (e.g., CQI or equivalent).  IRCA-approved ISO 9001\:2015 Lead Auditor certification.  Desirable, Certified Lead Auditor (ISO 9001\:2015).
