QA/QC Field Junior Associate

With over 4 decades of industry experience, DLB Associates is seeking a dynamic college/university student to serve as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Field Intern assigned to mission-critical projects during the summer of 2025. Position Title: QA/QC Field Junior Associate (Intern) Position Location: Work from project sites in South Bend, Indiana area with occasional work from home Duration: This internship runs May 15, 2025, to August 15, 2025 Salary $18.00 to $22.00 per hour based on experience level JOB SUMMARY The QA/QC Field Intern will assist the QA/QC Field Specialist in ensuring that all systems are installed according to project requirements, drawings, and specifications. This role involves assisting in the observation and validation of newly installed electrical and mechanical systems in alignment with project documents and quality control plans. The intern will monitor daily construction activities and help prepare status reports related to project scheduling, change orders, and contractor compliance with quality control protocols. Under the guidance of the QA/QC Field Specialist, the intern will learn to execute tasks and contribute to various projects while gaining hands-on experience. The QA/QC Field Junior Associate will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision and learns to navigate the business environment. Expected to learn company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues. The QA/QC Field Junior Associate will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives providing the intern with exposure to collaborative work with design engineers, construction contractors, and client staff in the development of mission critical datacenters ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist in Performing On-site Inspection, Validation, and Verification of Electrical and Mechanical Equipment (75%) + Assist in monitoring daily MEP contractor activities. + Assist in conducting inspections throughout project stages, including offsite fabrication, construction, and punch list phases. + Collaborate with design professionals, clients, trade contractors, and craftsmen to address coordination issues and installation challenges. + Attend and contribute to QA/QC and construction team meetings. + Assist in inspecting Owner Furnished Equipment, both offsite and onsite. + Assist in evaluating subcontractors' capabilities in meeting quality requirements. Ensure all trade contractors are following their approved QA/QC Plans. + Assist in ensuring all trade contractors are installing work in accordance with project documents, applicable codes, standards, and best work practices. + Assist in Ensuring compliance with safety policies and procedures. Assist in confirming site adherence to HSE requirements and that LOTO procedures are properly utilized during project activities. Assist in Developing Testing Plans and Procedures (10%) + Assist in monitoring scheduling of commissioning plans. + Assist in preparing pre-functional checklists. + Capture quality data from systems to either confirm compliance with established standards or identify deviations and create a plan of action. Assist in Reviewing Construction Related Design Documents, Drawings and Specifications (10%) + Review shop drawings and submittals. + Assist in verifying contractor quality requirements are specified to vendors and contractor documentation submittals. + Assist in identifying project milestones and adherence to equipment startups. + Assist Project QA/QC Manager to manage a field document control system for construction drawings, specifications, test and inspection reports, vendor data and as-built drawings. Reporting (5%) + Assist in monitoring project progress and report status regularly to internal and external stakeholders. + Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, test reports, checklists, and other quality records, assuring that the contract obligations for testing and record keeping are adhered to. + Assist in root cause analysis for site-level non-conformance reports and drive continuous improvement and best practices. + Assist in monitoring the disposition of all issued non-conformance reports. + Assist in preparing reports and generating metrics as necessary to understand and communicate site compliance of quality program. + Assist in ensuring proper turnover of complete quality control, ensure that turnover documentation is maintained, organized and turned over on schedule. + Manage personal hours using company tools. Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned Requirements POSITION REQUIREMENTS (BEGINNER LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING) + Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and controls system principles. + Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management. + Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. + Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace. + Ability to follow company and site safety requirements. + Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence. + Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information). + Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact. + Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision. + Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines. + Ability to achieve certification for NFPA70E and / or OSHA training as / if required. + Must abide by site security requirements and applicable non-disclosure agreement (NDA). + Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS + Daily travel to project sites in South Bend, IN area with occasional work from home. + Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS + Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
