Quality Assurance Inspector
Basic Function

Monitors, inspects, evaluates, and reports on vehicle maintenance work relative to quality and METRO standards. Oversees work performed by METRO contractors to ensure compliance with contract terms. Responds to, investigates and reports on vehicle and safety incidents. Provides technical assistance and training to salaried and hourly personnel of garages. Performs issue investigation and develops recommendations to eliminate issue cause. Assists in the development of work procedures and standards. Evaluates work performance, processes, and procedures to identify opportunities for operational improvement. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties Monitors, inspects, and reports on bus maintenance procedures to ensure compliance with METRO standards and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommendations. Inspects and evaluates the quality of maintenance work and service performed by METRO staff and contractors to ensure compliance with METRO standards, contract terms, and OEM recommendations. Inspects in production and/or newly delivered vehicles, parts, materials and supplies to determine their acceptability relative to METRO standards and contract terms. Responds to and performs incident investigations.  Documents incident related damage and determines root cause. Develops recommendations to preclude incident recurrence. May work independently, or on a team to investigate, assess and report on the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance operations.  Identifies and reports opportunities for operational improvement. Assists BOF personnel with diagnostic and repair procedures.  Provides training to personnel on procedures and the proper use of equipment.  Acts as maintenance foreman on an as needed basis. Monitors, evaluates and reports on in service failures including road calls.  Assists the Bus Operations Controllers in resolving bus mechanical problems at Transtar. Works with the Warranty and Technical Services departments to resolve warranty and trending issues. Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers. Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  Education Requirement

High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Additional technical/vocational training or engineering courses preferred.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum of five (5) years direct, hands-on bus mechanical experience (classified as Transit Bus Repair A, Transit Technician, or Transit Master preferred), and three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience in a mechanical/maintenance environment or as a Mechanical Foreman is required.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Strong working knowledge of bus maintenance/electronic diagnostic systems and associated equipment. Strong working knowledge of MS Office products, as well as SAP. Good human relations, organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills. Position requires a valid Texas CDL class “B” license with a “P” endorsement, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date. Must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records. Applicant must successfully pass a reading, math, and mechanical assessment prior to interview.
