Quality Assurance Manager
**SUMMARY:** The mission of the Quality Assurance Manager is to support the Business Units in the implementation and maintenance of quality systems for the manufacturing process. Support the BU’s in the identification of quality related issues and report quality trends to the organization while supporting the plant objectives of safety, quality, productivity, and customer service. In the event of an absence, the duties of this position will be covered by the Quality Engineer/Supervisor who has successfully been trained on the functions of Quality Assurance Manager. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. + Management responsibility for the adherence of the plant and the QA Department to the principles of the company quality system. This is accomplished by directing the plant efforts and keeping all groups focused on compliance to the program. This ensures that all products manufactured are of the proper quality and wholesome for the consumer. + Manage the design and implementation of the Food Safety Policy and the Food Safety Management System (FSMS). Coordinate the drive for FDA regulatory compliance and SQF certification and continued compliance with the Standards as these certifications have a major impact on the company’s future business opportunities, especially those relating to exporting of our products. + Plan, organize, implement and maintain quality systems within the plant, including SOPs, SSOPs, supplier raw material compliance, document control and HACCP programs. Follow up to determine and resolve root cause of failures. + Direct responsibility and immediate supervisory oversight of the QA Departments (Quality Systems, QA Labs, and Custodial), including their team members and their professional development. This is accomplished through effective training, development programs, and performance appraisals. + Direct responsibility for interacting with the FDA, USDA, State and other regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and resolve any issues. + Work as a communication interface with corporate R&D. + Direct responsibility to control QA department budget within plant guidelines. + Maintain all records required by FDA, USDA. Prepare and submit government reports as required. Provide technical, regulatory, and scientific environmental guidance, as needed, to the organization. + Maintain an organized, clean and safe work area. Champion the company policies concerning GMPs. + Comply with all standard safety practices, safety guidelines, and all Company guidelines and policies. + Analyze consumer complaint trends and work with other departments to develop plans to reduce consumer complaints. + Develop, audit, improve, and verify GMPs, SOPs, specific performance standards, and other prerequisite programs including pest control, maintenance, vendor letters of guarantee, foreign object management, crisis management and preparedness, food defense, analytical composition evaluation, weights and measures, etc. + Establish process and product sampling testing justifications, objectives and standards for product, equipment and plant environment. + Work closely with maintenance and production to identify work orders/PMs that ensure quality and sanitation of the facility **Qualifications Requirements** : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. **Education and/or Experience** : Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.), preferably in Food Science or other related science field; and a minimum of three to five years of related experience in a FDA/USDA regulated environment. Or a Masters’ Degree (M.A. or M.S.) preferably in Food Science or other related science field and a minimum of one to two years of related experience in a FDA/USDA regulated environment. And a minimum of one to three years in a managerial or supervisory capacity. Working knowledge of SAP is preferred. Must be able to understand and follow directions. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Must be able to work extended hours and/or overtime as required. Must be able to participate in job development training, such as equipment cross-training and team development training.
