Job Description
The Quality Assurance Technician performs quality assurance inspections and laboratory analyses required to satisfy USDA, Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point Program (HACCP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). This role involves inspecting facilities, raw materials, products, and conducting microbiological and chemical analyses of meats with the authority to halt production should product integrity be at risk.
Responsibilities
+ Inspect and analyze meat raw materials and finished products using physical, chemical, and microbiological methods.
+ Perform preoperational and operational plant inspections of the entire facility, both inside and outside.
+ Monitor incoming and outgoing shipments of product.
+ Inspect incoming loads of raw material and outgoing shipments for conformance to specifications and refer deviations to supervisory personnel.
+ Check the condition of incoming raw material and packaging supply trucks.
+ Adhere strictly to Quality Assurance Guidelines to ensure product wholesomeness.
+ Maintain cleanliness and organization within the quality assurance laboratories and ensure supplies are available for production workers.
+ Determine blend size, collect samples, and analyze blends for fat percentage.
+ Document information in accordance with plant programs (HACCP, SSOP’s, and GMP’s).
+ Comply with incident reporting policies and procedures.
+ Adhere to plant security and safety policies and procedures.
+ Communicate effectively with customers and all levels of the organization in a professional manner, display a positive demeanor, and be responsive to the team's needs.
Essential Skills
+ Laboratory experience in food science and manufacturing.
+ Knowledge of HACCP, FDA regulations, chemistry, and inspection processes.
+ Quality assurance and quality control experience in food manufacturing.
+ Functional knowledge and experience using laboratory grinders, food processors, and other equipment.
+ Knowledge of proper procedures for handling chemicals and laboratory safety.
+ Familiarity with USDA regulations and directives, and meat plant HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and SOP programs.
+ Basic math skills and the ability to write clearly and legibly.
+ Knowledge of safe lifting procedures, “lock out/tag out” procedures, and proper safety procedures.
+ Proficient computer experience with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Email, and Excel.
+ Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High school diploma required.
+ AS or BS in Science or 1-3 years of laboratory experience, preferably in the food industry.
Work Environment
The work environment involves 50% working in the lab and 50% working on the production floor, which is kept at 45 degrees. The role is in a meat processing plant where employees cannot wear jewelry. The environment includes exposure to noise, heat, cold, fumes, smoke, cleaners, and other elements. Safety gear such as safety glasses is required and provided by the company. The role requires frequent periods of standing and walking, occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 20 lbs unassisted. The ability to work well with co-workers in close physical proximity and to hear, comprehend, and professionally respond to inquiries, comments, and concerns is essential.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.26 - $23.26/hr.
