Quality Control Intern
JOB OBJECTIVE: Conducts routine analyses of samples submitted to the Quality Control Lab including but not limited to chemical and biochemical analysis of raw materials, in-process, finished product and stability testing according to established operating procedures and specifications. Supports Quality Control Lab experiments and projects of varying types, such as test method optimization, historical data analysis, stability studies, and procedure creation. Estimated starting salary range is $21.00 - $23.00/hour, depending on experience and qualifications. The full salary range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hour. CORE DUTIES: 1. Analyzes routine raw material, intermediate and finished good samples submitted to QC, following written test methods and inspection plans, according to inventory deadlines. Demonstrates good judgement as to when further guidance is needed from an experienced analyst. 2. Analyzes routine in-process and stability study samples. Demonstrates good judgement as to when further guidance is needed from an experienced analyst. 3. Performs analysis and interpretation of data to make logical conclusion from test. Reports anomalies to Supervisor. 4. Documents and reports sample test data according to QC lab policies and procedures. 5. Supports day-to-day function of QC lab with manufacture of buffers, reagents and mobile phases, and maintains adequate levels of supplies and standards. Performs organization, cleaning and disposal tasks as assigned. 6. Supports QC Lab projects as assigned by Supervisor. May be expected to generate a report on work completed and present results. 7. Works safely in the analytical lab and understands and complies with all applicable elements of PBI’s EHS processes. Participates in weekly lab safety checks as needed. 8. KEY QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Completion of college-level Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry series of courses with lab. 2. Ability to recognize structures and understand chemical properties of products tested and reagents used in an analytical lab. 3. Ability to learn operation of common analytical instruments and associated software for routine QC testing of small organic molecules, for example HPLC, NMR. 4. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Undergraduate Chemistry or Biochemistry major. 2. Experience using common analytical laboratory instruments and associated instrument software. 3. Good written communication skills: ability to create or revise QC Lab documents and reports. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Must be able to move about the facility and labs while performing the tasks described above. 2. Must be able to remain stationary for several hours at a time. 3. Must be able to effectively operate all aspects of analytical instrumentation and prepare samples using associated lab equipment such as pipettes and balances. 4. Must be able to identify and distinguish colors. 5. Must be able to work with chemical reagents required for analytical testing. 6. Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as lab coat, mask, gloves, hair covering and safety glasses and work in a laminar flow hood. 7. Must be able to move and transport objects averaging 10 pounds. 8. Must be able to position oneself in a low position. 9. Must be able to position oneself in a high position to access instrumentation and reagent bottles. 10.Must be able to use a computer for several hours at a time throughout the day.
