Quality Control Supervisor

The QC Supervisor is responsible for organizing and coordinating operations and procedures to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency. The QC Supervisor will oversee the Quality Control staff to ensure that proper documentation, inventory records, including fleet QC issues and overall quality is held to Silver Bay and legal standards. 

Essential Functions/Qualifications 

The responsibilities of the position include the following: 

Program and issue data loggers to fishing vessels and tenders  Supervise and mentor a team of department QC Leads  Understand and enforce the HACCP Plan  Understand and enforce company quality specifications  Train QC staff on company specifications and assess information retention, retraining where necessary  Maintain inventory of cleaning chemicals  Prepare tender and seiner packs  Assist fleet with onboard QC equipment and sanitation chemicals  Data entry of QC records reported to Production and Sales depart  Monitor the facility constantly for regulatory non-compliances and reports findings to management  Formally audit the facility monthly for regulatory non-compliances and reports findings to management  Submit monthly water samples  Prepare reports to communicate involvement and results of quality assurance activities to production  Manage Fish House and IQF grading line  Check and compare QC Lead’s data with real time data  Work with Fish House/IQF Supervisors on grading quality  Pre/post season inventory  Monitor and document outfall inspection and non-compliances Quality Control Supervisor rev 2/5/18  Implement food safety regulations  QC Lead paper work collection and organization  Work with QC Leads on paperwork issues  Manage QC lab, inventory, and microbiological testing  Upload and manage QC photo archive for sales  IMS data entry  Timely and regular attendance  Other duties as assigned 

Competencies 

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following functional and interpersonal competencies: 

Functional 

The Quality Control Supervisor position requires driven machinery certifications such as a forklift which in turn requires a valid driver’s license. HACCP certification prior to the season is required.  

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

Interpersonal 

Education and Experience 

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required. 1-2 years of related experience as a Quality Control Lead/Tech/Assistant in a food production facility and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Work Environment and Schedule 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must be able to climb or descend one or more set of Quality Control Supervisor rev 2/5/18 steep stairs or vertical ladders both inside or outside in all weather conditions. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception. The employee is required to distinguish shades of color to identify abnormalities and/or defects in food products. 

Mental Activities 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use teamwork skills. The employee will occasionally use interpersonal and customer service skills. The employee will occasionally perform basic math and read, speak and write English. The employee will frequently need to understand English.
