Quality Control Technician

Weyerhaeuser, Dodson Lumber mill located in Dodson, LA has an opening for a Quality Control Technician in our Planer Mill. This is a full-time job will be part of our day shift team. The hourly rate of pay is $24.14 with a competitive benefit package included. All candidates must be safety conscious, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills and work well with others in a team environment.

Key Functions

Manages and responsible for overall finished lumber qualityResponsible for working in and creating a safe environment and cultureResponsible for delivering Key Value MetricsResponsible to clean, calibrate, align, and perform minor maintenance on the Lucidyne, Warp Bridge, Thumper, and other value related equipment in the Planer MillResponsible for entering and maintaining certain databases.Routinely goes through lumber packs ensuring specifications of products are met and looking for opportunities to improve accuracy and 2btr and HPV yields.Understands process from incoming raw materials through the end point customerUnderstands and applies knowledge of value systems and gradingMonitors the auto grading system and performs spot checks for quality issuesPerforms lumber strength checks as requiredMonitors performance of moisture meter, stamping, and grading systems, and makes adjustments or performs basic maintenance as needed on all value adding equipment in the Planer department (i.e. cleans, calibrates/aligns, and troubleshoots problems)Assists in identifying issues from the Sawmill, Kiln, and Planer Setup that would affect lumber grade/qualityWorks with and effectively communicates with outside agencies and vendors during inspections, audits, and customer visitsTroubleshoots and researches important information to determine the root cause of quality issues and interacts effectively with others to resolve problemsNetworks with peers at other Weyerhaeuser sites for peer-to-peer learnings and information sharing'sUnderstands operational roles of Craftsperson and Planer Set Up in order to occasionally cover breaks and absencesMust participate in occasional conference callsResponsible for compiling and sending shift reports on quality and any related issues.

Must be able to read electrical schematics.Willing to work Sundays as needed to perform maintenance on value related equipment.Must be flexible with work schedule and able to work any shift, weekends, overtime, holidays as needed.Able to perform all essentials functions of an industrial environment, which may include lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing steps, working from heights, standing or walking for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours or more, working in extreme temperatures, dust, and noise while wearing all safety equipment.Successful completion of assessment process, background check and post-offer pre-employment drug screen and physical
