Covia is looking for a dynamic Quality Coordinator who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Thompson, OH location.  As Quality Coordinator, you will manage the Thompson’s plant laboratory and oversee sampling and analytic activities. Perform analytical tests for regular and experimental work for new processes, procedures and products.  Organize and oversee the overall workload, work output, and reporting of results.  Continuously work on ways to improve the quality and reduce waste.  Manage the Quality Control Program and assure integration with the Corporate QIP program. 

 

 

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

 

 

Ensure safe working conditions in the labs; enforce safety & health rules. Sample and complete water discharge analysis for total dissolved solids, oil and gas, and other. Document and complete regular reports for internal use and ADEQ. Perform analytical tests for production control and quality control of shipments. Must be thoroughly familiar will all plant and Corporate Lab procedures and able to perform all for testing Frac and Industrial sands. Must be thoroughly familiar with the Production Limits (specs) for all grades. Maintain customer specification files to ensure correct and current requirements are documented. Must be thoroughly familiar with loadout specifications as required by individual customers.  Manage specifications to ensure compliance to customer requirements. Coordinate the necessary sampling and testing to ensure production quality control. Perform necessary tests to determine shipment quality control. Monitor plant-specific quality control policies and procedures for adequacy and effectiveness.  Direct plant-specific testing activities used to control product and shipment quality. Randomly test retained samples from bulk loads to assure operator accuracy. Perform chemical analyses as determined by Corporate requirements. Perform, and maintain analyses outlined in the plant Continuous Monitoring/Control System (CMS). Prepare quality charts for the Annual Process Assessment. Perform investigations and root cause analysis on customer complaints, when applicable. Coordinate plant experimental work, which effects quality or cost reduction. Maintain communications with Covia Sales, Customer Service, CASL and Covia R&D. Prepare weekly and monthly product samples for analysis at CASL.  Prepare and process sample requests as required. Record and submit reports of work performed. Research and submit recommendations for new instrumentation and equipment. Assist with development of new and/or revised product specifications as required. Direct all aspects of the Quality Control Program. Assure plant and corporate quality programs are in effect.  Maintain the various Access database programs, collect and input quality data into same. Using Access databases and/or other software, prepare QC charts and statistical analysis as needed to meet plant, corporate, and customer requirements. Collaborate with the Plant Steering Team in preparing the annual Process Assessments. Serve as a member of the plant’s Steering Team. Act as the Manual Coordinator for the plant Continuous Improvement activities and the QIP manual. Complete assigned projects in a timely fashion. Assist with various Health, Safety and Environmental tasks and administrative functions.  Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

5+ years quality supervisor experience, mining/foundry preferred Bachelor’s degree engineering, physical science or related field Working knowledge Microsoft Office, IFS, HMI systems, Internet and ISO 9000 documentation Certified Quality Auditor and/or Manager of Organizational Excellence preferred Basic understanding of mathematics, statistical analysis and particle size distributions Knowledge of the SOPs, GLPs, quality standards and equipment used within the foundry industry Knowledge of MSHA, Federal, and State laws and regulations
