Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer develops and manages activities concerned with the development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes and materials.

Primary Responsibilities

Active participant in LPA, QMS, and supplier audits and develops and maintains Control Plans for the inspection, testing, and evaluation of product.

Administers the disposition and maintenance of discrepant materials including the generation of Repair Shop Orders and the identification of appropriate methods for evaluation and/or testing.

Evaluates incoming material for conformance to applicable specifications and maintains necessary certification records in the company business/ERP system.

Conducts routine calibration of gages and measuring instruments according to the established calibration schedule.

Maintains applicable quality related documents in the company business/ERP system, dimensional layouts of manufactured product and collection of required vendor certifications.

Maintains PPAP records and checklists in electronic format and historical folders to ensure all customer/supplier requirements are completed.

Resolve all quality related issues with customers and vendors by analyzing product returned from customers and lead problem solving teams.

Participate in APQP and PPAP team activities on assigned product lines, launches, and supplier issues.

Work with QA Manager in all Process Improvement Activities such as corrective actions, problem resolution, prevention, mistake-proofing and training sessions for production personnel in defect detection and prevention. Assist Engineering and Quality personnel to update and maintain Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, and PFMEAs for submittal to customers.

Assist Engineers, as necessary, related to engineering changes, review of customer specifications, and preparation of reports. Adhere to 5S standards (maintain cleanliness of work area)

Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering

2+ years of Quality Engineering manufacturing experience

Experience with APQP, Control Plans, PFMEAS, Work Instructions, 8D/5Why/Fishbone, and PPAP

Training Employees to W.I. and new procedures

Customer Interaction responding to issues and concerns

Ability to read and interpret quality reports such as CMM reports.

Proficient in reading Blueprints

Proficient in reading and understanding product specifications

Knowledge and use of ERP systems

Auditing experience with LPA, Product & Process Audits

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to think logical and break down a complex issue and gather all pertinent information timely.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent phone demeanor and maintain professionalism.

Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and able to manage multiple tasks as well as meet deadlines for each task.  

Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds

Preferred Requirements

Fastener experience

ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS 9100 Lead auditor certification and/or internal auditor certification

Six Sigma Lean Belt

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $82,000 - $102,000.
