Job Description
The Quality Engineer will serve as a resident engineer at a client location, responsible for ensuring the quality of wire harnesses. This role involves identifying, containing, root causing, and creating corrective actions for any quality issues. The engineer will act as the main point of contact between the client and the manufacturing team, ensuring effective communication and resolution of quality concerns.
ResponsibilitiesCommunicate effectively and promptly when plant Quality Concern Notifications (QCNs) are issuedPresent status of issue resolution to plant management teamServe as the key interface with Quality at the client and supplierUnderstand the supplier’s manufacturing process and act as a facilitator for visits from the supplier's corporate officeDeploy resources from the corporate office as neededDetermine if the supplier is design responsible and manage parts directed to tier 2 with Multi Party Agreements or Bailment Agreements in placePossess knowledge of Specifications, Special Characteristics (SCs), and Critical Characteristics (CCs)Provide daily support and cover multiple shifts as requiredParticipate with Incoming Quality and Product Validation Team (PVT) during investigation of emerging quality concernsEnsure defective parts returned to the supplier plant have been deliveredEnsure issues are effectively contained at the plantVerify certified stock is being used on the line and suspect stock is quarantined or shipped back to the supplierUnderstand the part return process for parts shipped out of the assembly plantUse appropriate means to test or check parts (functional/visual)Drive closure to all issues and communicate status through Problem Cause Analysis (PCA) to affected partiesHandle Stage 1 disputes with Incoming Quality (IQ)Attend relevant meetings such as IQ Binning, Bi-Weekly Top Supplier, daily Plant Quality, and Vehicle Resolution Team (VRT) meetingsCommunicate concerns to IQ, PVT/VRT, and Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) if the plant is not handling parts properlyPossess knowledge of supplier manufacturing processes and error-proofing methods (poka-yokes)Be trained in problem-solving techniques such as Black Belt, Green Belt, Global 8D, 6 panel, etc.Participate in color harmony meetings when requiredObtain plant clean points and verify that certified stock is being used on the lineFollow up with plant contacts to ensure that 8Ds are sent to the plants on timeCoordinate warranty parts shipment to the supplier and follow up daily to ensure parts have been deliveredEnsure that open BSAQ projects are up to date by following up with the Resident STA, PVT Engineer, or VRT teamUnderstand the VRT meeting schedule and build strong relationships with VRT team membersEssential Skills1-2 years of Quality Engineering experienceExperience working in an automotive plantExperience solving problems with customersExperience working off of engineering printsProficient in Microsoft OfficeExcellent organization and communication skillsBS Engineering Degree or equivalent STEM majorAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience with wiring harnessesKnowledge of Supplier Quality, CAD, PPAP, and root cause analysisProblem-solving certifications such as Black Belt, Green Belt, etc.Work Environment
The candidate will work in a dynamic environment, frequently communicating with customers and colleagues. They will be assigned to specific client sites, including OEM assembly plants, and may need to coordinate with third-party companies performing retrofitting work. The role may involve overtime, primarily on the back end of shifts and occasionally on Saturdays. The candidate will undergo safety training and should be proactive in asking questions and learning on the go. Shifts and overtime requirements will vary by location, with minimal to no Sunday work expected.
