Quality Engineer/Failure Analysis

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Failure mode is analyzed and determined through scientific investigation utilizing internal and external FA tools. Possible root cause of failure in returned goods is determined and documented in formal FA reports or presentations.  Corrective actions and recommendations are provided as part of FA reporting to aid in scrap reduction and cost savings. Repeated returns are prevented by providing correct assessments of problems observed in returned goods and correlation of assessments to past returns.  Continuous interaction with II-VI Marlow global FA team to aid overseas FA activities performed by reviewing reports and providing direction and feedback on content and approach taken. FA analysis of returned goods carried out in timely manner to fully satisfy customer.  RGA team members informed throughout FA process to concur with findings

Proactively Analyze II-VI Marlow Processes for Baseline Performance Characteristic/Improvement

Engineering testing and process or device qualification samples, whether conforming or non-conforming, as requested by internal groups are analyzed to understand failure and success modes. Manufactured conforming parts are periodically procured from finish goods and analyzed to document the current state to build up reference library to aid future FA activities representing the success modes Root cause of failure mode is determined and communicated in form of a technical FA reporting or FA presentation for internal requests. Manufacturing and design engineers are satisfied with FA reporting to feed the findings into II-VI Marlow team’s root cause analysis process if required. Findings are expected to lead to additional process improvement activity towards increased yields, cycle time and cost reductions by other teams. Proactively obtain internal production products from various process platforms to assess process platform’s current stability and as a baseline to differentiate  non-conforming products from good products. Document findings in technical report and presentation formats as deliverables.

Competitive Analysis

Competitive modules and systems are analyzed for strengths and weaknesses and feedback is given to Engineering,  R&D and marketing in the form of technical reports. Competitive assessment results presented annually in TechOPS platform to make others aware of developments in the competitor field. Competitive capabilities are determined and published from the samples analyzed, if possible. Comparisons made to II-VI Marlow’s strength and weaknesses in competitive analysis to aid developing additional innovation paths in II-VI Marlow technology improvement. Evaluate competitive thermoelectric modules and systems to identify opportunities for development of new processes to help maintain II-VI Marlow’s thermoelectric leadership. As a Senior Member of Technical Staff work with Engineering and R&D to continuously improve II-VI Marlow processes to bridge technology gaps. Lead and manage xxxxxx
