As the Quality & Food Safety Manager, you will lead the Quality Team, ensuring professional and effective interactions with other departments across the business. You will oversee corporate quality personnel, manage the vendor assessment program, conduct supplier audits, and handle nonconforming materials and corrective actions. You will collaborate with Directors, assist with troubleshooting, coordinate supplier quality assurance projects, support special projects, and provide customer and sales support. Additionally, you will crosstrain on QA/RA systems, train personnel, and promote a committed team environment.
Responsibilities
+ Build and manage an effective Quality Team, ensuring professional and effective interactions with other departments.
+ Oversee corporate quality staff to ensure timely completion and reporting of quality activities, such as product release and COA’s.
+ Develop and maintain the supplier assessment program across the business.
+ Conduct supplier audits to ensure compliance with SOPs, SSOPs, formulas, government compliance procedures, recall procedures, HACCP/Food Safety Plans, and similar programs.
+ Manage supplier nonconforming materials and corrective actions, including trending reports and follow-ups on supplier corrective actions (SCARs).
+ Collaborate with the Directors of Quality, Food Safety, and Regulatory Affairs to support central quality needs at manufacturing sites and businesses.
+ Assist QA/RA personnel in resolving plant-related quality or regulatory issues as needed.
+ Work with internal departments and customers on supplier quality assurance projects.
+ Assist with QA/RA special projects as needed.
+ Help QA/RA teams address customer and sales staff questions related to product quality and food safety.
+ Familiarize and support personnel with QA/RA systems as needed.
+ Provide training to personnel across the business in specific areas of expertise.
+ Model, promote, and enforce a committed team environment through empowerment and positive reinforcement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ A BS degree in animal or food science, food technology, chemistry, or microbiology is required. Further advanced degree is highly sought.
+ 5 years' experience in auditing GMPs, HACCP, and Food Safety programs/audits within the food or feed industry.
+ Strong food safety knowledge, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
Work Environment
The Quality & Food Safety Manager will work in a professional environment that requires knowledge of food technology, microbiology, and chemistry. An overall knowledge of quality assurance management procedures, HACCP, FSMA, and GFSI is essential. The position involves cross-functional collaboration, minimal supervision, and effective communication with plant personnel, raw material suppliers, sales staff, customer service personnel, and the QA/RA team. The role requires excellent analytical and organizational skills, the ability to work independently and as a team member, and the ability to seek rational solutions to quality and food safety issues. Up to 30% travel time is required, mainly through the US visiting plants and supplier plants, with potential international travel opportunities. The typical office hours are 8-5 pm. The manager will report to the VP and will oversee the Central Quality and Food Safety Team, consisting of a team lead, 2 Food Safety Specialists, and a contractor.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
