Job Description

The Ultra Assurance function is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and fulfilment of Ultra's Quality Policy, which is to comply fully in the conduct of the Company's business with all applicable regulatory and customer required specifications, and to maintain an effective Quality Management System, working in partnership with the Operations and Engineering teams to ensure that products and processes conform to applicable standards and specifications, and the incidence and costs of quality non-conformances are constantly monitored and improved, while maintaining the highest practicable standards of manufacturing productivity and efficiency.

Job Purpose:

Demonstrating company compliance to quality requirements through the delivery of an effective quality assurance function

Scope:

Responsible for managing the Quality team within the Quality DepartmentTo proactively identify, maintain and recommend quality and business improvement processes within the business required to maintain company quality approvals.Working closely with all levels of internal and external customers including approval authoritiesTo proactively manage the quality output from their direct reports

Key Responsibilities:

Proactively lead by good example and manage all direct reports to achieve business strategy and departmental objectivesTo deliver the audit calendar required to satisfy the requirements of the company quality approvals and our customersTo ensure effective and timely issue of audit reports, supporting evidence and KPI’s for the quality/compliance functionTo regularly conduct performance reviews including PDRs with direct reports, providing constructive and positive feedback, agreeing SMART objectives and addressing underperformanceIdentifying training needs, coaching and developing direct reports, sharing appropriate information and knowledge to enable others to grow and develop in their role and progress their careersEffectively managing all resources (including recruiting new staff) to ensure on time delivery within budgets and according to quality standards.  Producing reports as required with this information.To be responsible for the maintenance of company requirements and approvals e.g. AS9100 & NadcapEnsure all required quality plans are in place.Provide an independent monitoring function for compliance with airworthiness and customer requirements to ensure product and design assurance.Coordinating the quality aspects of the Source Inspection and Conformity activitiesEnsure a self certification and inspection programme for manufacturing and service staff is maintained including control of Inspection Stamps and Certifying staff.Manage the First Article Inspection process.Undertake investigations into non-conforming parts and root cause analysis.Identify and co-ordinate investigations arising from Quality issues through to their documented conclusion, with supporting root cause analysis and solutions to prevent re-occurrenceEnsure adequate and appropriate Quality records are maintained.To provide guidance with the preparation and certification of product release documentation.Develop and implement company processes and documented procedures to ensure a robust Quality Management System is in place throughout the business.To plan, manage and carryout a schedule of product, process and design audits.Following audits, proactively ensure corrective and preventive actions are followed up to completion.Identify training needs and be responsible for training employees in Quality, process improvement and airworthiness matters as required.Be prepared to meet reasonable requests to travel to support current and future products on customers sites around the worldTo encourage development and improvement in our business processes.Provide support to department managers in developing effective processes and proceduresEffectively manage relationships with customers and suppliers on Quality issuesTake an active part in the development and review of departmental measuresTo ensure the departmental objectives are achieved in line with the job holders individual objectivesPerform duties in accordance with company policies, procedures and processes   There may be additional activities to perform from time to time in order to maximise the contribution to Ultra Electronics Controls’ goals and objectives

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential

  Has worked in an Aerospace Organisation and has experience across the various Quality disciplines i.e. Product, Design, Process & Design  Experience in Aerospace standards (e.g. AS9100, etc)Has a proven and broad experience in Quality/Business Improvement functions meeting on-going requirements in relation to the authorities and customerExperience in managing Quality InvestigationsExperience in managing and meeting Product Source Inspections and Conformity requirementsProven experience working within an Aerospace quality management systemTrained AuditorGood communication skills demonstrated both verbally and in writing in the form of presentations recommendations for improvementDemonstrated experience in building good working relationships and gaining trust and respect with internal and external customersAn understanding of costs and financial implications within the quality departmentSelf driven and able to monitor own performance effectively to ensure deadlines are metEffectively able to manage own time according to the role requirementsExperience of liaising with internal and external customersWorks effectively with othersProactively able to manage own work to in order to achieve objectivesUse own initiative within the scope of the rolePlans work and delivers on timeSeeks solutions to problems encounteredMakes timely decisions within the scope of the roleDemonstrates a “Can do” positive attitudeGood application of Microsoft packages and relevant software for the role

Desirable

Experience in Process Measurement techniques (e.g. SPC, KPIs, etc .)Usage of Quality Management System and Process Mapping Tools (e.g. Q Pulse)
