  Summary of Position:

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for assisting management with the execution of quality control programs and systems at the JBSS plant. The person in this position supervises the Quality Technicians and is responsible for the direction, supervision, training, and evaluation of employees. Supporting the quality systems manager, the quality supervisor provides leadership to assure continuity of quality and food safety programs.

Functions of the Position:% of TimeEssential/ Marginal·         Assists with the development, implementation, review and maintenance of prerequisite programs, food safety plan and the food quality plan. 15%Essential·         Ensures HACCP plan is maintained, monitored, verified, validated and kept current and CCP’s and pre-requisite programs are monitored, verified and validated as required by the plan. Verifies HACCP documents. 15%Essential·         Acts as SQF practitioner & PCQI, assures that a protocol for validating prerequisite programs and critical food safety and food quality limits is developed, implemented, and maintained. 15%Essential·         Responsible for training, scheduling, and development of quality techs and leads. 10%Essential·         Leads plant teams to assure timely closure of all critical CAPA’s. 10%Essential·         Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of production-related quality policies, procedures, programs and systems. 10%Marginal·         Leads investigations for customer/consumer complaints, implements corrective and preventive actions and provides responses and reports in a timely manner to assure timely closure of all critical CAPA’s. 5%Essential·         Assists in the implementation of quality and food safety related training. 5%Essential·         Makes proactive recommendations and offers solutions to the Quality Systems Manager to improve quality and efficiencies. 5%Marginal·         Communicates and coordinates activities with other shift supervisory staff and Operations Manager ensuring smooth production work transitions. 5%Marginal·         Participates in regulatory inspections, monthly plant GMP audits, and customer and third-party audits such as AIB and SQF. 5%Essential

·         Aware and accountable for maintaining and documenting preventative controls necessary to ensure food safety and quality.

·         Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to management.

·         Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills, and information within assigned team and across functional areas.

·         Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.

·         Responsible for compliance with all safety policies and procedures established for health and workplace safety.

·         Responsible for supporting safety culture by practicing safe work behaviors, reporting potential hazards, and conducting safety observations as assigned.

·         Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following current good manufacturing practices, allergen/sanitation controls, food defense/food fraud, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and regulatory requirements.Continually

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Knowledge: Bachelor’s in chemistry, biology or related field preferred.  Five plus years’ experience supervising quality personnel in a food manufacturing or GMP regulated environment.  Basic understanding of microbiology.  Familiar with food safety related programs. 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: PCQI – Preventive Controls Qualified Individual for food safety plan Certified SQF Practitioner

 

Skills and Competencies: Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) preferred.  Ability to lead, motivate and train others.   Able to follow verbal or written instructions.  Interpersonal skills.  Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, flow charts and data-based programs such as infinity. 

 

Job Specific Requirements:

In the event that the Quality Supervisor is absent, the Department Manager is responsible for providing an equally qualified person to cover this position.
