Quality Systems Manager

Summary of Position:

The Quality Systems Manager (QSM) is responsible for managing and executing quality control programs and systems at the JBSS plant. The QSM serves as the external quality resource for customers, consumers, and auditors, and supports the Quality Operations Manager in achieving department goals and priorities.

 

Functions of the Position:

Develops, implements, and maintains quality control systems to ensure the highest possible quality standards in incoming raw materials, outgoing finished products, and JBSS manufacturing environments.Oversees the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing System, including food safety fundamentals, the food safety plan, and the food quality plan.Leads regulatory inspections, monthly plant GMP audits, and customer and third-party audits such as AIB and SQF. Develops and maintains the audit CAPAs.Coordinates and leads customer quality reviews. Investigates customer/consumer complaints, implements corrective and preventive actions, and provides timely responses and reports. Provides assistance to customer service representatives when technical expertise is needed.Works with all plant departments and senior management to continuously improve the quality of all raw materials, work-in-process products, and finished goods.Maintains the integrity of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing System.Communicates essential information to relevant personnel to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing System.Acts as an SQF practitioner, ensuring a protocol for validating pre-requisite programs and critical food safety and quality limits are developed, implemented, and maintained.Initiates quality control programs required by customers. Works closely with customers to understand their requirements and product specifications.

 

 

Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

Bachelor’s degree in food science, technology, or a laboratory science (such as biology, chemistry, or physics) is required.Seven or more years of experience in managing quality operations in a food-manufacturing environment is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

HACCP certified.Certified SQF practitioner.

Skills and Competencies:

Must be a strong communicator with comprehensive hands-on experience in both food manufacturing/operations and QC lab environments.Strong leadership skills in managing change as well as managing the activities of technically based employees.Highly proficient in utilizing computer software/desktop applications (such as MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Visio).Must be capable of serving as a “customer advocate” within the JBSS environment.Must be capable of positively interacting with upper management of other companies/customers.Ability to travel up to 10%.
