Quality Technician
Quality Technician Job Description Perform periodic in-process quality checks, including physical and chemical lab testing, coding, weight, packaging integrity, labeling, temperature, sensory evaluations, document review, and data entry to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory specifications. Inspect and sample incoming ingredients for internal lab testing, draft and maintain plant standard operating procedures, and participate in plant food safety and quality inspections. Responsibilities + Conduct periodic in-process quality checks, including physical and chemical lab testing, coding, weight, packaging integrity, labeling, temperature, sensory evaluations, document review, and data entry. + Inspect and sample incoming ingredients for internal lab testing. + Assist in drafting, revising, and maintaining plant standard operating procedures. + Participate in plant food safety and quality inspections, in-process inspections, mock recalls, label audits, and HACCP audits. + Verify proper set-up of production lines at start-up and shift change, including printer set-up (coding), packaging materials, labeling, and quality limits. + Review sanitary conditions of production lines prior to start-up by verifying fillers sterilization limits, performing ATP (adenosine triphosphate) tests, environmental swabbing, and following up on sanitation procedures after downtime requiring maintenance. + Communicate quality issues across departments and assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions. + Perform investigative environmental swabbing of critical production equipment and areas as a troubleshooting guide. + Assist in investigations in response to customer concerns or other quality-related deviations to determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions. + Assist in the management of quality hold activities, including non-conforming product inventories. + Ensure lab equipment, refrigerators, and thermometers are properly maintained and calibrated. + Maintain and follow micro sample and shelf-life study programs. + Perform sample delivery to Micro Lab and other NJ plants. + Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMPs and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality. Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect employee safety or food safety/quality to management immediately. Essential Skills + Experience with laboratory procedures, quality control, and quality assurance testing. + HS diploma with 1+ years of hands-on experience in food manufacturing OR a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Microbiology, or a similar field OR 1+ years of recent quality assurance testing experience in a related industry. + Problem-solving and continuous improvement skills. + Strong attention to detail and accuracy. + Organizational and time management skills. + Ability to lift 50 lbs.
