Job Description
The Quality Lab Technician performs essential duties safely, satisfactorily, and in a timely manner. This role involves understanding and following batch tickets (recipes) with high accuracy for weights and measurements, performing a variety of complex testing processes on production batches, and ensuring high-quality standards in all tasks.
ResponsibilitiesUnderstand and follow batch tickets with high accuracy for weights and measurements.Perform a wide variety of complex testing processes on production batches to measure physical or chemical characteristics such as viscosity, weight per unit of measure, flow, gloss, and color characteristics.Utilize a spectrophotometer for color matching and testing standards.Test materials from suppliers and batches from production.Perform standard testing procedures, including preparation of materials, with attention to detail and high quality.Follow daily work plans for Lab Work Requests or project plans.Accurately document work in lab notebooks (either physical or electronic).Recognize roadblocks or anomalies; resolve them or communicate concerns with a chemist in a timely manner.Ensure raw materials are available and correctly labeled.Correctly label and mail samples.Maintain a clean and organized work environment.Tint batches without assistance.Calculate resin composites.Maintain QC records using a web-based computer system.Prepare records for submission.Perform testing on lab equipment, including viscosity, pH, weight per gallon, and % solids.Conduct draw downs.Use ovens.Maintain and perform calibrations on machines.QualificationsB.S. in a science field, with a basic understanding of wet chemistry (viscosity, pH, and % solids)Prior experience with color matching is a plus.Long term interest in quality and the paint industryNot color blind Work Environment
This position is based in an industrial lab environment within a plant. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats and safety glasses will be provided. On the first day of training, employees will be sent to a designated location to get steel-toed boots/shoes, which will be reimbursed. The facility has strong smells of chemicals and paint, so sensitivity to these is not suitable. The lab is large, with at least 5 people on each shift at all times.
Hours are 10:00pm-6:30am, M-F (will be opportunity to change shifts over time).
The pay range for this position is $25.25 - $25.25Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00
