As a Quantum Research Scientist at APL you will... Craft experiments for cloud or in-house quantum systems, and report findings to internal technical teams. Support existing programs through building noise models of quantum systems, iterative data acquisition, and analysis. Work collaboratively with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions. Support ongoing programs in quantum information science by making immediate contributions to efforts developing quantum characterization, control, and error correction strategies in solid-state qubit systems. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications if you... Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Quantum Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Have 1+ year experience with quantum technologies such as solid-state quantum computing. Have a strong desire to work in an interdisciplinary, applied science environment. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Are willing to occasionally travel to sponsor sites, conferences and workshops. Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and need to meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You will go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have a Master's Degree in Physics, Quantum Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Have hands-on experimental experience with solid-state qubit operation. Have experience developing simulations and/or executing cloud experiments in one or more quantum programming environments such as IBM’s Qiskit, Google’s Cirq, or Pennylane. Are experienced with test equipment control and data analysis in python. Have experience modeling multi-level, multi-qubit, and/or light-matter interactions. Have experience with high-performance computing and physics-based modeling. Have a record of significant contributions on collaborative projects pursuing highly sophisticated objectives. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
