R&D Associate Scientist

This role is part of the R&D Measurement Sciences team, a team focused on smart data, driving decisions and insights through efficient data generation, interpretation, and communication. The Associate Scientist coordinates workload, tests samples, and reports analytical data for a core Quality program for analytical monitoring of snacks and convenience food products within North America. The focus of this role is on the Oil Quality portion of the Core Lab. Candidate would initially be responsible for Oil Quality testing through LC, GC, Spectrophotometer, Wet Chemistry, FTIR and other techniques and instruments. Going forward, candidate will be expected to take on projects that would require the ability to plan, execute and analyze data to interpret results and derive conclusions from start to finish with minimal guidance from the Sr Scientist and Sr Principal Scientist. Responsibilities Perform laboratory analyses using LC, GC, Wet Chemistry and other methods following standard operating procedures. Compile, calculate, analyze and Interpret data and be able to draw conclusions. Document appropriate test data in LIMS and communicate results in an accurate and timely manner, according to established turnaround time requirements. Responsible for data review, identifying interferences from statistical analysis. Conduct/lead special testing projects as needed. Maintain accurate equipment and assure the reliability of measurement systems by using appropriate Good Lab Practices (GLP) and established processes. Responsible for LC, GC (and all test related equipment) troubleshooting & minor repair. Support sample preparation according to methods. Prepare and maintain chemicals, solutions, sample dilutions, and equipment as needed for the performance of analyses. Manage laboratory supplies. Organize and purge samples and out of date chemicals on a regular basis. Follow all appropriate safety procedures, including proper PPE, as well as other site policies and programs. Communicate with prep room and/or test requestors (scientists, engineers, technician, management) to ensure samples are processed/analyzed accurately. Communicate and collaborate with external vendors to optimize and troubleshoot instruments. Develop/integrate digital processes in the testing area to increase speed to market and ensure long term data storage/security. Integrate LabVantage functionality into MS oil quality testing processes. Percent Travel: up to 10% Compensation and Benefits The expected compensation range for this position is between $60,000 - $100,500 based on a full-time schedule. Location, confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related discipline with 3+ years’ experience in a laboratory environment. A Master’s Degree is preferred. Experience with LC and GC operation/methodology is preferred. Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry. Strong attention to detail while conducting all testing and reporting. Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver accurate analytical results to needed timelines. Ability to work closely with other technicians, scientists, and management to achieve business objectives. Demonstrated ability to learn and share new techniques and adapt to new ways of working. Familiar with understanding and following all Good Lab Practices and lab safety procedures. Good understanding of hazardous chemicals and ability to safely handle hazardous chemicals. Strong organizational skills, with an ability to keep neat, orderly, and complete records. Ability to prepare graphs and tables using appropriate computer software such as Microsoft Excel. Basic statistical knowledge is preferred. Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal. Presentation skills preferred. Experience with LabVantage LIMS preferred.
