Research and Development Chemist

Job Description

Responsible for the development of inkjet inks for various applications, including packaging, mailing, wide format, security, and novel uses, ensuring customer satisfaction through technical expertise and innovation.

ResponsibilitiesEmploy scientific methods and project planning to formulate and identify product development and application needs.Develop ink formulations and perform color matching for customer-specific needs.Conduct thorough laboratory testing and document project outcomes.Lead technical problem-solving efforts to address customer challenges.Assess and manage intellectual property related to developed products and competitive positioning.Demonstrate expertise through internal reports, published articles, customer engagements, and industry conferences.Prepare samples, perform physical property measurements, operate and maintain printers, and conduct data analysis with comprehensive documentation.Research, procure, and evaluate raw materials.Provide support to production and quality control teams as needed.Collaborate across departments and with customers to innovate and meet evolving needs.Attend supplier meetings, customer visits, seminars, and trade shows.Support global R&D initiatives and enhance technical presence within the inkjet market.Mentor junior team members and contribute to their technical development.Maintain lab equipment and ensure proper calibration.Attend required meetings and training.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 5+ years of R&D Chemist experience.Master's degree in Chemistry or related subject with 2 years of experience in an R&D chemist position.Experience in working with products such as inks, coatings, or chemicals.Proficient with lab equipment including surface tensiometers, microscopes, spectrophotometers, and other relevant instruments.Strong command of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and scientific principles.Skilled in problem definition, data collection, and analysis to draw accurate conclusions.Ability to write detailed technical reports and analyze complex scientific documents.Proficient in statistical data analysis and time management for project deadlines.Ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.Strong customer-facing communication skills for technical support and product development discussions.Maintain organized and accurate lab records, cleanliness, and storage in compliance with safety and hygiene standards.Additional Skills & QualificationsHighly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of clear documentation and communication.Work Environment

The R&D team consists of 12 people. The shift is Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM or 8 AM to 5 PM with no weekends. The work environment fosters a close-knit, family atmosphere. Employees enjoy 11 paid holidays and tuition reimbursement for continuing education.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $36.00/hr.
