Job Summary
Supports R&D engineering work and capabilities to support Morton Salt innovation and growth opportunities working within the R&D team and with cross-functional stakeholders including operations, quality, procurement, sales, marketing, and new business development. Innovation and growth opportunities may include process/product improvement within core or adjacent businesses, technical advisory to project or business leadership, and innovation with new products and/or processes.
This is an entry-level individual contributor R&D position and shares R&D team responsibilities and goals, including work safety, housekeeping, R&D facility upkeep/regulatory compliance, supporting fellow R&D team members on other projects, and contributing towards team achievement of R&D annual business goals. Major activities will include R&D execution of project work, including working at manufacturing sites with operations, vendor equipment/process trials and piloting, process startups, product testing, benchtop experimentation, and laboratory analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supporting R&D projects and R&D work streams. With moderate guidance and oversight, the role provides engineering discipline to projects and activities. Processing engineering and computational analysis such as material/energy balances, costing analysis Technical knowledge transfer and training on deployed projects and improvements. Technology exploration (research) and feasibility analysis on new opportunities and ideas. Execution of lab, plant, process, and equipment experiments and trials. Generating technical reports and presenting results to help provide recommendations to project/business leadership. Technical support on minor issues or non-project customer-focused needs. Member of the safety team; supporting waste handling, chemical inventory documentation, chemical ordering and miscellaneous tasks required for the safe operation of the facility.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
BS in Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Newly graduating to 3 years’ experience in manufacturing, operations, and process and product ROI (return on investment) projects. If newly graduating, ≥ 3.0 GPA Proficiency and execution with fundamental engineering skills including thermodynamics, separations, unit operations, computational analysis, and process flow design and modeling. Strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills. Safety mindset/champion, including environmental and people/employee safety.Work Envrionement
Office and Lab environment with travel to plant and/or vendor locations as needed.The salary wage range of $65,000 – $90,000 is just one component of Morton's total package. Actual compensation varies depending on the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.
