As a R&D Engineer, you contribute significantly to technology and product development projects by identifying and implementing innovative solutions in the area of medium voltage circuit breaker pole parts. Reporting to the R&D Team Manager for pole parts, you will contribute creative ideas to R&D projects, as well as proposing follow-up projects and activities based on new ideas.

Your responsibilities

Contributing to the development of new products and solutions in the field of medium voltage pole partsInterdisciplinary collaboration with other ABB units as well as external partners in the framework of R&D projectsPreparation of development tests and type tests in close collaboration with certified test labsClose cooperation with local industrialization and production during implementation of new products and optimizationsConducting simulations for a variety of intricate problems related to pole parts and their use in medium voltage breakers and switchgearConsulting for internal and external customers on problems related to the application and manufacturing of pole parts

Your background

First experience in an R&D environment preferableHigher degree in engineering, preferably with a background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Materials ScienceBasic knowledge in electrical distribution network and its components and an interest to expand itBasic knowledge in manufacturing processes and plastic materials preferableBasic knowledge in the area of current interruption phenomena in medium voltage product range preferableExperience in CAD and simulation tools (e.g. SolidWorks)Fluent in English and willingness to learn GermanA solution-focused approach with hands-on mentality and interest in practical laboratory work
