Job description :
Reporting to the President/General Manager, the incumbent is responsible for quality control of raw materials and finished products, supervision of laboratory technicians and the smooth running of the laboratory department.
This role involves establishing, implementing and coordinating quality standards across all Group units. You will be the technical reference in terms of adhesives, cement and cleaning products. You will proactively participate in the development of departmental strategic objectives. Participate in the Group's technical and technological progress in order to maintain a leading position in the 3 business sectors.
Main responsibilities :
Personnel management:
Determine and coordinate distribution of work among laboratory managers and technicians. Manage the progression system. Provide training to laboratory technicians to continually improve their skills. Periodically review technician performance based on goal attainment, collaboration and output. Ensure compliance and maintenance of occupational health and safety and quality assurance rules. Review and approve documents produced by laboratory technicians. Ensure that operational objectives assigned to laboratory technicians are met. Maintain all documentation generated during lab technician operations in order and in compliance with company policies. Verify and follow up on investigation reports and other production-related reports. Recommend the purchase and replacement of analytical instruments in the event of breakage. In collaboration with their respective supervisors, set up technical, quality and R&D skills development plans for employees in all group laboratories.Planning:
Plan and supervise the analysis of finished products, raw materials and sample stability, as well as the review and approval (or rejection) of results, according to an established schedule.Quality control:
Ensure compliance with AASHTO and ASTM standards during testing. Maintain the quality control system.Research and development:
Develop and propose new techniques or protocols to ensure the company's development. Be familiar with the company's R&D projects and manage their execution in the laboratory. Know the objectives of the R&D department in order to propose new ideas and new ways of achieving our objectives. Develop/acquire the skills to be able to optimize formulations. Determine additives to be used in our products. Develop new products/formulations for paving and roofing.Carry out any other related tasks requested by immediate superior or required by duties.
Skills and qualifications :
Requirements:
University degree in chemistry or chemical engineering Experience in a chemical environment 5 to 10 years' experience in personnel management Experience in quality control Fluency in Excel software Bilingualism (French and English) Experience working with polymers used in coatings/adhesives and/or industrial cleaners/strippers Experience in research and development Formulation skillsSkills required :
