Director of Research & Development

Your role and responsibilities

Serve as technical resource for the team and provides technical support within NEMA Motors DivisionSupport creation of technology and product roadmaps. Drive and foster a culture of innovation within the teamOversee efficient project execution in accordance with gate model, internal procedures as well as the industry standards to ensure project results are delivered with high quality on time and within budget. Stay on top of electric motor technology and market developments to provide inputs to R&D projectsCollaborate with other R&D functions, product management, sales, operations and corporate research centers to deliver cost competitive motor technologies and designs and overall customer satisfactionDevelop, secure and facilitate innovation process and ensures key performance indicators are in place, tracked and continuously improved upon. Change leader regarding new initiatives and transformational projectsResponsible for IP risk and opportunity assessment and risk mitigation strategy in the electric motor design areaAllocate tasks to team members and supervises workload to ensure peak performance and the most efficient use of resources. Develop and acquire competencies that will be needed for the development of future products. Ensure talent management through coaching, performance feedback, and provides career opportunities for the team membersPrepare annual budgets for the team in cooperation with R&D management and ensures efficient use of funds

Qualifications for the role

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with minimum 15 years of experience in Electrical Design of Electric MotorsMinimum 5 years of management experienceKnowledge of advanced design methodologies (FEA), manufacturing process and customer support experience are requiredWorking knowledge of UL, CSA, IEEE, NEMA regulatory compliancePreferred Experience Includes: PMP Certification, Lean Six Sigma Certification, Induction Motor, PM MotorCandidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
