R&D Rare Reagent Process Development Scientist

The IDEXX R&D Process Development and Transfer team is looking for a Scientist to support Rare Reagent Process Development. A successful candidate will have experience in protein purification, protein modifications with small molecules (biotin, fluorescent labels, etc), and protein/peptides conjugations with enzymes and various solid phases (polystyrene based particles, etc).  The role will involve designing robust and scalable processes for protein purifications and conjugations, that can be successfully transferred into manufacturing environment.  Familiarity with fundamentals of various modes of chromatography and understanding of biochemical/chemical reactivity is critical for the role.

What will you do?

You will plan, prepare and characterize purification and bioconjugation processes to support our new assays development and manufacturing.

You will design and perform experiments with appropriate controls.  You will also gather and analyze data to reach conclusions.

You will plan and apply DOE methodology to develop experiments to cover process and design spaces and use appropriate statistical tools.

You will document experiments and other lab or product support activities. Prepare reports and summaries. Present results and conclusions. Maintain accurate experimental records.

You will order materials, maintain equipment, work area, and general lab upkeep.

You will collaborate and communicate with colleagues and others in related areas to provide work support, exchange information and ensure efficient processes.

You will maintain knowledge of products and procedures, developments in the field, industry and regulatory environment. Adhere to appropriate procedures and regulatory requirements.

You may participate in conferences, webinars and seminars to continue to develop technical knowledge base.

What do you need to succeed?

Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 0-3 years of experience in Biochemistry/Chemistry, or related engineering fields.

Hands-on experience with purification, synthesis and characterization of bio-conjugates.

Background in process development or manufacturing is desired.

Positive attitude, willingness to learn, being goal-oriented and highly motivated individual.

Laboratory bench and instrumentation skills.

Critical thinking, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Being able to take initiative and to be accountable, with strong commitment to efficiency and quality improvement. 

Ability to work effectively both independently and in highly collaborative team environment.

Strong organizational skills, being detail-oriented, and ability to plan work.

Excellent verbal communication, documentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience with analytical techniques for characterization of conjugates (e.g., SDS-PAGE, RP-HPLC, Size Exclusion chromatography, LC-MS, UV-vis).
