To continue to develop the flame retardants that help keep us safe from fire in our daily lives, we are looking for an R&D Scientist (m/w/d) for our Research Centre in Hürth-Knapsack. You bring your passion for technology and innovation as well as your chemical engineering expertise to address challenges that arise in our process innovation, production facilities and investment projects mainly in the area of environmental technologies. You work closely together with other process experts and the engineering teams on sites, to drive the development of innovative, sustainable processes and products. With your engagement, you contribute to shape Clariant's transformation towards a net-zero emission company. Together with your project team you will identify and implement state-of-the-art technologies that address upcoming challenges and ensure the long-term competitiveness of our production facilities. In this endeavor, you collaborate closely with academia, research organizations, expert networks, and vendors.

 

 
Responsibilities

Lead projects to develop new products for flame retardants for plastics, coatings and polyurethane applications.  Be the key contact for phosphorus chemistry and flame retardants.  Drive innovation and sustainable product development to enable our customers to meet their key challenges.  Discover new product opportunities together with your colleagues in R&D, the Application Development team, segment managers and Technical Field Sales.  Run experiments in the lab and in the production plant.  Develop and optimize manufacturing strategies.  Lead the lab area safely and ensure compliance of products with future regulatory requirements.  Collaborate with external institutes and industrial partners. 
 

Requirements

PhD or at least MSc in chemistry.  Professional experience of 3+ years in a similar role preferred.  Knowledge and experience in phosphorus chemistry or flame retardants preferred.  Willingness for further development in those areas is required.  Proven track record in project management and leadership skills.  Passion to work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams.  Effective networker with an eye for customer centricity.  Proficiency in English (spoken and written); German language proficiency desirable.  Excellent communication skills and team player.
