Job Title

R&D Tech III

Responsible for analyzing and controlling material and processes in the development/pilot production of high quality ceramics. In addition, responsible for sample preparation, test, and analysis of ceramic or other related materials.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Works under minimal supervision following approved work instructions in the creation and/or analysis of high quality ceramic products. Acts as ‘go-to’ person in the absence of team lead or supervisor when assistance with procedures, equipment or information is needed. Provides training/cross-training in equipment and process operations that complies with customer specifications as well as quality and safety standards. Supports with engineers or independently applies materials engineering principals for the design, testing, and maintenance of current or new processes to resolve technical issues; leading projects as needed in their specialty area. Analyzes data, systems, processes, product or equipment, utilizing materials and processing principles; reporting results to customers or leadership as required. Proficient in operation and learning numerous operations as required, including making machine/instrument adjustments and performing equipment set-ups and maintenance. Assists in the design of new systems analyses, materials, processes, products or equipment by working on segments of developmental projects. 

Job Requirements:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent plus 4 years related work experience or Bachelor’s degree with demonstrated 2 years related work experience.

Experience:

Experience in a laboratory environment required.Experience with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting required.

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Intermediate math, writing skills and statistics knowledge required.Understands general ceramic science principles for materials related to assigned projects and contributes relevant observations and is consistently able to offer solutions.Demonstrates ability in reading blueprints or customer drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment and nature of technical problem required to complete analysis.Demonstrates the ability to create and interpret charts and capability studies such as FMEA’s and DOE’s.Proficient in gathering technical data requiring the use and application of database or other statistical software.Possess the ability to use the computer system for basic departmental functions.Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.Exhibits effective cooperation and communication skills to effectively work within a team environment.

Position Specific Physical Requirements:

Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment in work areas.May be required to handle hazardous chemicals such as acids and solvents.May be required to wear a respirator (a medical evaluation will be required prior to fitting).May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Target Hiring Range

Hourly: USD 28.12 - USD 34.28
