Job Title:  R&D Lab Technician
Location:  Naugatuck, CT 06770
Hours / Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Type:  Direct Hire 
Salary: $52K + bonus and generous benefits package!

ENTRY LEVEL role! Will consider candidates graduating in May 2025!

Responsibilities

LAB TESTING EQUIPMENT

TOC (Total Organic Carbon) and TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) Basic lab testing, such as: Density, Particle size, Moisture, Hardness LAB WORK Understand basic lab safety, such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and hazardous symbols. Fundamental knowledge of Organic chemistries Create laboratory samples and prototypes ranging from 50 to 500 grams. Prepare dry or wet blends using: Kitchen Blenders Small rotary blends Primarily handle non-hazardous chemicals utilized in nutraceuticals. Work with some hazard substances such as solvents, acids, bases and higher concentration nutraceuticals (Vitamin D, Selenium) which do have hazards.  Take notes, formulate, and share test results with supervisors and team members Ensure that inventory documents and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the laboratory or laboratories are properly maintained. Follow instructions and, upon receiving full training, capable of creating directions for others to follow. Maintain Lab cleanliness and organization Maintain an adequate supply of lab equipment Attend weekly R&D meetings Collaborate with other departments, such as QC / QA, Regulatory, Sales MS Excel and math skills needed PILOT WORK: Knowledgeable and prepared to learn machinery for upscaling to 500 kilograms. PRODUCTION: Observe how small concepts are developed into larger projects. Assist with carrying 10-50 pound bags. Understand the operational mechanisms of large equipment and distinguish them from those of smaller equipment. Administrative duties: 10-15 hours per week. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry (preferred), Pharmacy, Biology, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related science field NOTE: Candidates who are graduating in May 2025 will be considered 1-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.  Knowledge of GMP and QA/QC for the food industry.  Knowledge of raw materials used in the nutraceutical and natural products chemistry.  Knowledgeable in the basic types of unit operations used in chemical industries.  Working knowledge of the types of analytical methods used to characterize chemicals.  Practical experience solving problems related to typical chemical processing operations is especially desirable. Must be fluent in English.
