This is a PRN position working as needed schedule, plus call.
Under the direction of a Board Certified Radiologist, the RAD Technologist provides quality patient care essential to performing a variety of diagnostic radiographic procedures, in compliance with Radiation Safety Procedures and ALARA principles.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced RAD Technologist to join our team! This is a PRN position working 1-2 shifts per week or as needed.
Responsibilities
Performs procedures according to departmental protocol as established by Radiologist(s); understands procedure preparation for general radiologyIntroduces self to patient and patient’s family (if appropriate), communicates with the patient and explains the procedure(s)Interviews the patient to obtain patient’s medical history or important information regarding the nature of the exam being performed, documenting that information appropriatelyPresents examination education to the patient prior to the exam and gives post procedure instructions pertinent to the exam performedDemonstrates the ability to utilize the Carestream CR and Carestream PACSCritiques images prior to submitting for interpretation, monitors film quality while maintaining film repeat rate of 5 percent or lessUtilizes appropriate film markers (ie: Mitchell Markers, scout film, time, portable stickers, etc.)Utilizes shielding /collimation to minimize patient radiation exposure in compliance with Radiation Safety Procedures and ALARA principles, while monitoring own radiation exposureCleans radiographic equipment as requiredTransports mobile x-ray equipment to ER, patient’s rooms and surgeryTransports patients in a safe manner utilizing proper body mechanics and lifting techniques and requests assistance as neededDemonstrates ability to take patient vital signs when appropriateUnderstands policies and procedures relative to patient restraintsDemonstrates ability to properly administer oxygen as appropriateDemonstrates ability to perform venipuncture, maintaining annual competency (if applicable)Checks BUN/Creatinine values per departmental protocolRecognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures as appropriateEffectively identify and respond to a contrast reaction, demonstrating familiarity with drug box, location of crash carts, intubation equipment and procedure for calling a “code”Performs procedures and assists in establishing a technique that incorporates the patient’s correct state of growth and development for the neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric populationInitiates applicable Risk Identification Reports and reports incomplete and incorrect examinations to ensure proper patient charges and continuity of patient careAssists with orientation of new employees and studentsSchedules inpatient examinations to facilitate outpatient scheduled examinationsDemonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician’s ordersEstablishes and maintains a good rapport and professional relationship with fellow employees, other departments and the Medical StaffOther duties as assigned
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree of Applied Science in Radiology requiredCurrent Texas Medical Board (TMB) General Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) required upon hireAmerican Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiography (R) required within 12 months of hireAmerican Heart Association (AHA) approved course in Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hireMinimum of 3-5 years of radiology experience in an acute care hospital setting requiredDemonstrated knowledge of technical, diagnostic, and emergency procedures related to Diagnostic Radiology Ability to be on-call during after-hours, weekends and holidaysWhat we offer
