Job Description

Job Summary

The Radiation Oncologist specializes in treating cancer patients using radiation therapy, where they diagnose cancer, develop personalized radiation treatment plans, administer radiation treatments, monitor patient responses, and educate patients about the therapy, while collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The Radiation Oncologist is responsible for the complete care of cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnoses patients with cancer and develops a radiation therapy plan based on the patient’s individual needs.

• Administers radiation therapy treatments to patients in accordance with the prescribed plan.

• Monitors patients’ responses to therapy and adjusts plans as necessary.

• Provides patient education on radiation therapy and its effects.

• Maintains accurate patient records and documents all treatments.

• Monitors and evaluates patient outcomes and success of treatments.

• Collaborates with other medical professionals as needed.

• Completes documentation in a timely manner.

• Functions independently in most activities. Provides care for patients. Adheres to hospital /clinic policies and procedures and medical staff rules, regulations and by-laws.

• Maintains orderly and efficient business practices at the clinics.

• Provides supervision and direction to other clinic personnel.

• Respond to emergency medical situations in an urgent manner and perform on the spot emergency assistance which may include first aid and/or CPR.

• Practices and behaves in a professional, safe and ethical manner at all times.

• Serves as a patient advocate.

• Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communication skills and a positive service attitude.

• Participates in performance improvement and educational activities. Completes all CEU’s as required by respective licensure. If licensed, maintains an active and current license.

• Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.

• Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.

• Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.

• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

• Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

• Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.

• Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

• Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

• Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited university.

• Board certification in Radiation Oncology.

• Licensure to practice medicine in the state.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret clinical journals, financial reports and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, patients, families, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.  Ability to effectively present information to patients, families, management, the public, and/or board of directors.

May be exposed to infectious diseases and occupational dangers like accidental needle pricks. Must be able to withstand physical and emotional stress.

The employee may be exposed to combative patients.  

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
